mr governor: the following bill has reached a tie vote in the assembly, and, as such, you have the option of forwarding it to the people for approval pursuant to article v, section 3 of the northeast constitution.

I plan on presenting a nominee to the Assembly shortly.

there isn't a vacancy, you're still technically a representative until the special election concludes

1. It's easy for someone to get entrenched as Governor. In fact, per Wiki, no Governor has lost reelection since dissolution. Many don't even face major party opposition.

2. People want to hold office in the Northeast. Almost all of our recent Senate races have contested, our last two open-seat gubernatorial elections were highly contested, and two of our recent special Assembly elections were also contested.

3. This will give opportunities to advance for newer players. Open elections are generally more competitive than ones with incumbents (e.g. July gov special, July Senate special, February senate vs Feb and June gov).

Governor:

Is anything happening in the Northeast Assembly?

Since my appointment August 12 to fill in the rest of the term because of a vacancy, I have been checking in every day, more than once a day, and there is nothing going on in the Assembly.

Is it going to be like this until the election?

If so, why bother even appointing anyone to the Assembly to fill a vacancy?

I am pleased to accept the posting, however, the Assembly is absolutely dead at the moment, with no action at least since my appointment.

What is going on in the Northeast?

sorry, i'm in canada atm and can't really be as consistent as i would like Tongue

i hope we can still have some productive debate before the elections though

That's because it was a tie vote, and the governor forwarded it to the voted on by the public.  The constitution calls for this, and prescribes a particular voting period for tied legislation forwarded to the public (which IIRC, is usually the next Friday).  Thus, the timing of the vote with the general election was purely a function of when the governor decided to forward the bill to be voted on by the public.  Had it been a week earlier or later, it would not have been on the ballot at the same time as the other constitutional referenda and gubernatorial special election.

i just mentioned it because you were talking about "non-amendment referenda", but you are right that it is a different situation.
