I would put at the top Alaska, Hawaii, Utah, Montana, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
I don't know which states are less idiosyncratic, although Idaho, Nebraska and possibly Kansas seem to be politically pretty boring.

By the way
Have you ever noticed that when they poll religious attitudes by state, religiosity seems to be roughly inversely proportional to distance from the Louisiana/Mississippi border?
(Obviously with a big, big exception called Utah)
