Shirley Jackson yay!

A brief research brings to Merricat Blackwood from We Have Always Lived in the Castle. I imagine she would be some sort of weird leftist agrarianist "reactionary" - basically I see her ideal as being the most libertine, unholy, depravate etc. aspects of the life of late medieval to early modern smallfolk, and a society based around that.

Also a literary one, with some slight details added by me:

Gender - Male
Age - 62
Race (Ethnicity) - White (Portuguese)
Hometown - Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal
Residence - Lisbon, Portugal
Religion - Catholic
Sexual orientation - Heterosexual
Relationship status - Widower
Education - College graduate
Occupation - Journalist; director of a newspaper's cultural section
Interests - French literature, talking to his late wife's photograph, omelettes and lemonade
Other things to note - Cardiopathic and obese. He has a young Italian colleague who's gotten in big trouble. Dreams of moving to France.

I have no idea what the literary source of this fellow is, but I get Ignatius J. Reilly-type vibes from him. I'll guess he's a PSD voter who's followed the party through all of its realignments as he's aged and his views have evolved.

Pereira from Antonio Tabucchi's Sostiene Pereira (usually translated as Pereira Maintains or Pereira Declares). The book is actually set in 1938 and Pereira starts a random anti-heroic figure who gradually becomes more and more acutely aware of the repressiveness of the Salazar regime. The Italian guy ends up beaten to death by political police types after publishing "uncomfortable" obituaries.

Going with a more obscure literary character since evidently Battista Minola has wised on to the Shirley Jackson and Sarah Waters ones

Lmao

Mung Beans's character sounds like a mainstream Republican who is not enthralled with Trump. But I am going to say he reluctantly voted for him anyway because this thread is already full of more Biden Republicans than there are in reality. The real person he is based on may well be completely different.

Next hypothetical person, inspired by recent events:
Gender - Female
Age - 19
Race (Ethnicity) - White (half Romani, half Spanish)
Hometown - Moura, Portugal
Current location - Évora, Portugal (registered to vote in Moura)
Education - High school graduate
Occupation - Full-time university student
Religion - Unsure herself
Sexual orientation - Heterosexual
Relationship status - Single
Interests - Literature, flowers, spending times inside ancient churches
Other - Feels a sense of shame for both parts of her ancestry, and tries to hide them and just tell people she's Portuguese. She is quite introverted and very beautiful.

Since I don't think anybody has answered for Battista Minola's self-hating Romani bookworm yet, I think she would be a Costa supporter but maybe a little less socially liberal than most given her apparent predilection for old-school religious #aesthetic.

I was interested to see whether people would make a self-hating Romani from that area of R e d  A l e n t e j o be a Ventura supporter or not, but to be fair I'm not sure the name of Moura suggests anything particular to you nor to anyone else likely to enter this thread.

I can't understand who Mung Beans's character is based off of, so skip me.

I think that's most likely a Republican, but in the famous "three parties" model of Kansas politics, he falls into the moderate Republican camp, and I would imagine voted for Kelly in 2018 and Biden in 2020, among others.

Next hypothetical person:
Gender - Male
Age - 28
Race - White
Relationship status - Married (wife is pregnant with their first child)
Religion - Catholic
Hometown - La Spezia, Italy
Current location - Catenanuova, Italy
Education - College degree
Occupation - Works for a small company selling office stuff in Catania
Interests and hobbies - Trains, stats, Sicilian food

discovolante's character may have been right-leaning if and when she was religiously practicing, but in the current day sounds like a Democratic voter with some oddball tendencies. Going out on a limb I'd say the kind of person who voted Warren in the 2020 presidential primaries even though she had dropped out by the time of the Maryland primaries.

Next person:
Gender - Male
Age - 30
Sexuality - Uhm, it is complicated
Relationship status - Single
Religion - Anglican
Hometown - Somewhere in Cheshire, England
Current location - Oxford, England
Education - University of Oxford
Occupation - Mathematician
Hobbies - Photography, poetry, word play
Other - Recently ordained as a deacon; should be ordained as a priest soon but is terrified by the prospect

I know two Oxford alumni that if you combined together you would make that person... and they're both conservatives though one supported Bernie Sanders in 2016. So I'd say based on that they too are a bit of an oddball and idealist, and either someone flirting with ideology but votes Conservative because the social order benefits them/they find too many issues with their idealist dream to put it into practice or someone who is an avid left-winger based on moral grounds. In the US they'd either be a partisan Democrat or a Lincoln Project Republican, both on moral grounds.

Oh, this is pretty funny. My person was Charles Dodgson in 1862, a few years before he would publish a certain book and become famous with the name of Lewis Carroll. He appears to have been a firm Tory in real life, I guess your first description would fit him in present times.

khuzifenq's would sound like a real Main Street Republican to me, if not that his small town is a massively Democratic one. So I will go more safely with a moderate Democrat.

Someone else feel free to go next.

Asuka Langle Soryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion. I think that in our world she would probably be a Democratic voter, albeit a moderate one, and dare I go out on a limb, a big fan of Hillary Clinton.

Two very peculiar real people:
Gender: Female / Male
Age: 80 / 33
Ethnicity: English / English
Sexuality: Heterosexual / Heterosexual
Hometown: Oxford / London
Relationship status: Widow / Married
Occupation: None / Book publisher
Other occupation notes: Former socialite / Military Cross recipient
What they have in common: Famous childhoods involving writers, which is part of the reason why they are currently together in the same location.

For the record, these two people were Alice Liddell (the girl who inspired The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland) and Peter Llewelyn Davies (one of the boys who inspired Peter Pan) in 1932, when they appear to have met at some event related to Lewis Carroll.

khuzifenq's character reminds me of our resident Indian American Republicans PQG and OSR, especially the latter, so I will go with neoliberal Republican who didn't vote for Trump but otherwise tends to follow the party line on his ballot.

The last character sounds like someone who sympathized with Republicans while growing up because of the family environment, but has probably stopped doing so. I would say he has a fairly liberal worldview but is not particularly political and voted Democrats out of a dislike of Trump and his brand of politics - if he even voted.

Next:
Gender - Male
Age - 24
Ethnicity - Pakistani
Religion - Sunni Muslim
Relationship status - Single, probably not interested in one
Hometown - Rockford, Illinois
Current location - Rockford, Illinois
Education - Undergraduate degree in meteorology
Occupation - Graduate student (still in meteorology)
Interests and hobbies - Religion, Urdu literature, ornithology
Other - Very unconcerned with pop culture. Is attracted by strong, assertive personalities.

Age: 19
Gender: Female
Race: White
Marital status: Unmarried. Romantically interested in a member of her extended family, vaguely sexually interested in her best friend.
Children: None
Education: Secondary school
Occupation: Domestic worker
Hometown: Portsmouth, England
Current location: Northampton, England
Sexual orientation: Who the hell knows?
Religion: C of E, Evangelical churchmanship
Interests: Nature, fiber crafts, moral theology
Other: Extensive family ties to the Royal Navy. The family member she's interested in is distantly related enough for it not to be objectively inappropriate but closely related enough for it to be weird.

Answering this because "radical centrist" frankly is a terrible answer and because I love the fictional characters you bring up, although I couldn't tell who this one is. Her attributes are peculiar enough to make her views potentially unusual but not peculiar in a single direction for me to not default to "safe Labour because she is a 19-year-old girl"... which is not applicable to the likely 19th century setting she actually comes from, but she might still have been a sympathizer of the labour movement or socialism for class and philosophical reasons.

Race: Hispanic (Mexican)
Gender: Female
Age: 39
Occupation: Owns a gym
Income: $90k
Education: High school
Relationship Status: Single, and not currently looking for a relationship
Children: Has 2 children by 2 different fathers
Religion: Catholic, has attended Mass every week, but has become more devout over the past few years
Location: Dallas, TX
Interests: Working out, cooking, spending time with her kids, rock music
Other: Before owning her gym, she was a wedding planner. About 5 years ago, she lost around 100 pounds and got into fitness from that, first being a personal trainer in someone else's gym, then owning her own gym.

This one would code to me as pretty Republican if it said White instead of Mexican... I am going to say she used to be a Democrat but voted Trump in 2020 and is more Republican-leaning going forward although probably still mostly marked D boxes in 2022.

Next character

Age: 65
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Italian-Chinese
Sexual orientation: Heterosexual
Relationship status: Married with two children
Education: Technical high school
Occupation: Restaurant owner
Hometown: Milan, Italy
Current location: Florence, Italy
Religion: Occasionally practicing Catholic, but retains elements of Chinese folk religion he was passed down in his beliefs
Interests: Football (Fiorentina), fashion and tailoring, hiking in the hills
Other: His father was a Chinese immigrant who moved to what is now Milan Chinatown in the 1940s, his mother a waitress whose family was originally from Apulia.

I would answer in similar fashion to you: "Probably not especially political, but I assume a Republican when he actually manages to vote." but it's also likely he hates Trump and voted against him both times.

Age: 36
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Irish
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Relationship Status: Married, one child
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Current residency: Anaheim, CA
Education: Studied History in college but never finished
Occupation: Stand-up comedian
Interests: Beer, collecting stamps, folk music
Other: Talks a lot about his Irish heritage, very active on social media

Definitely sounds like a Republican, although it is pretty conceivable that he would have voted for Trump in 2020 but not 2016.

Ethnicity: Italian Jewish
Gender: Male
Age: 62
Religion: Masorti
Occupation: Mechanical engineer
Hometown: Rome, Italy
Residence: Modi'in, Israel
Sexual orientation: Heterosexual
Family: Married, two adult children
Interests: Football, Italian literature, beer, trivia games
Other notes: Moved to Israel with the family as a child, spent most of his life in Jerusalem.

I want to say NDP but his probable social milieu, almost "informal economy" status and contemporary voting patterns he could be Tory-curious. Most likely he hates politicians in proportion to how much they're associated with strict lockdowns and votes only sporadically.

The next character is based on someone you and I know, so someone else answer.

Gender: Female
Age: 29
Ethnicity: Irish
Nationality: Irish and American (dual citizen)
Religion: Catholic
Sexual orientation: Asexual
Hometown and residence: Brainerd, MN
Occupation: Desk job at a medical centre
Interests: Catholic social doctrine, knitting and needlework, unusual pets (a pigeon), hunting, archery

The hobbies and religion make me think the person in quotation is a Republican. Yet, somehow with that grand scheme of information I could forsee some traditionalist communitarian Indie.

She's actually a Democrat (by voting record if perhaps not by identification) and a very "woke" and left-leaning one at that, haha.

Your character sounds like a Republican but this is not entirely obvious, especially depending on what media company he works for. I also have a vague feeling he could be based on a real person or preexisting fictional character but couldn't tell whom.

Someone else feel free to go next.
