Ben Shapiro is a failed screenwriter and his entire career revolves around him being bitter about the fact that he was unable to make it in show business even though he came from a successful family. If you've ever read excerpts from his novels you'll see that he's a very typical talentless hack. People like him are a dime a dozen in California but turned his outrage into a career as a conservative propagandist.

In all fairness seeing what Hollywood produce in screen writing quality right now I get his bitterness. But I think the mix of being talentless, together with his anti-charisma, extreme arrogance and obnoxiousness and slightly because of his politics is really what killed his Hollywood career. Right now screen writing in Hollywood seem mostly being written by rich kids at very low wages and with little care about whether they have any talent for writing, but having a guy like Shapiro on the same team as other screen writers seems a great way to get a very toxic work environment.

That's true, and there are a variety of reasons why screenwriting is so disastrous right now, but also to be clear, Shapiro's writing is worse even than the worst of Hollywood's D-list superhero movies.

This description fits to a T the other Big Culture Warrior of the moment: Will Jordan aka Critical Drinker.

YouTube always recommends his crap to me. I have never clicked on one of his videos so I can't say anything about the quality of his commentary but the video titles don't give me much hope. Ironically the last thumbnail I saw was one indicating that he liked that Qanon movie Sound of Freedom, which is hilarious since that is a low-budget preachy message movie that he would hate if it was about a woman standing up to sexual violence, lol. All of these men are like the male version of the feminists who used to whine about how offensive everything is. Every time a movie comes out (unless it's a direct to video testosterone-fueled propaganda film) they'll be there to tell you about how the men weren't represented properly. It's the other side of the "Your fav is problematic" coin.

I think this video will explain a lot to you.

I generally avoid watching YouTube commentary but I'll consider checking it out. Thanks.

This thread reminds me of when one of my friends convinced me to go watch Rise of Skywalker to the cinema in 2019. I had watched Force Awakens but not The Last Jedi so he spent like 20 minutes telling me in detail the plot of that movie so I wouldn't feel lost while watching the third one. In the end absolutely nothing that he told me in those 20 minutes had any relevance whatsoever to the movie we were watching. I thought it was funny. That movie was crap by the way.

The Fall of Star Wars makes The Last Jedi look like The Empire Strikes Back, yes.

The Rise of Skywalker makes Triumph of the Will look like The Birth of a Nation.

One (or maybe two?) of the Barbies in the movie are played by transwomen.

Honestly who cares?

Cultural conservatives do. A LOT. If you go onto Youtube and you look up Barbie reviews, a lot of the right wingers are saying "this movie is inappropriate for children because there is a transwoman in it and therefore it's going to confuse kids and/or indoctrinate them".

It definitely hasn't made it into the mainstream discourse then because this is the first I am hearing of it. Almost everyone I know wants to see the movie. I'm shocked by how diverse its appeal is. I think this is just another example of conservatives completely overplaying their hand on the woke/SJW issue and coming across as incoherent to normal people. Even for someone like me who unfortunately is well aware of how these idiots behave, it still seems bizarre and over-the-top for all these grown men to be screaming about how evil the Barbie movie is on the internet. It reminds me of all the cringe compilations that were made and universally laughed at a few years ago when a bunch of incels and conservatives were having meltdowns because a movie with Korean people in it won Best Picture at the Oscars. I think the anti-SJW movement was on its deathbed back in late 2019, but sadly it came back with a vengeance after the left went crazy with all the rioting, censorship, and race-baiting in 2020. I think it is collapsing again now, though, and hopefully for good this time. But all that is a rant for another thread I guess.

What's annoying me about all of this crap among the elder Millennial men is that they're acting like they're the only generation who's ever had to come to terms with being old and out of touch. Every generation goes through this. You don't think people born in 1928 were disturbed by the popularity of the Rolling Stones or the Who? It's just these 40 year old men with ED that are failing to cope with it right now, and it's pathetic and transparent. You'd think that Shapiro (and his audience of pathetic men) would see how embarrassing it is that they're spending an hour of their lives ranting about how offended they are that the f-cking Barbie movie wasn't made to appeal to them.
