Obama apparently discussed other positions other than SOS with Hillary, and he met with Richardson over the last few days too. However, the media is acting like Hillary got the job already, so he could open up an unneeded can of worms if he snubs her now.

She's qualified enough and it could be worse. It'd just be odd to have a SOS with such a massive political following.  I don't see the benefits for Obama other than neutralizing his only within-party rival and taking a potential nuisance over things like health care reform out of Capitol Hill.

As for her losing her Senate position, she apparently jockeyed for a more prominent role and Reid squashed the idea. It'd take her years to build seniority, so she may prefer being a prominent key figure, traveling the world, and of course, dodging sniper fire again.

I do think it'd be funny if Hillary became SOS after Richardson endorsed Obama in what many considered to be a betrayal, most likely in hopes of getting that position.

I know Bill was VERY resentful over that.
