I don't know why everyone acts like Schatz deserves a free ride to having the seat for life because he was lucky enough to have the governor appoint him. The Democratic primary is the real election in most of Hawaii's races and the state deserves some choice. If Schatz proves himself and wins, then so be it, but he should at least earn it the first time against some viable competition.

I'm personally supporting Hanabusa 100%. And women live longer than men anyway Smiley

The seat doesn't belong to Schatz either. God forbid he actually face ONE competitive election to prove himself before having the seat for life (the main election in a Hawaii Senate race is obviously the Democratic primary).

Schatz isn't any more entitled to the seat than Hanabusa is. If he wins, then good. He earned it. But stop acting like Hanabusa shouldn't even run.

Are you out of your mind? We need her in Washington! Just look at what happened a few months after the late Shelley Berkley lost her seat in Congress.

Yes really. Almost every politician who rises to that level is EXTREMELY ambitious, and there's nothing wrong with that. Singling her out and saying it's a cultural thing is flat out disgusting. The seat will not be in jeopardy for the party regardless of who wins the primary. The Democratic primary is the real election so give the voters a choice. This is her chance to attain her dream position and Brian Schitz only "earned" it by being appointed by his buddy. Neither has really earned it yet so no one feels entitled, they're just running for the job they both want. It's an open seat as far as I'm concerned. If he wins the primary, then he'll truly have earned it, but HanabUSA has every right and reason to run. Get over it.

She wanted to run with or without Inouye's blessing. Will she use that to her advantage? Of course.

See? Get that DINO piece of crap out of office!

Senator HanabUSA will move far to the left as one of the most powerful Senators in the nation. Mark my words.

Oh please. Stop acting like Hanabusa would be the next Joe Manchin. Roll Eyes She'd be a reliably liberal vote on the vast majority of anything that comes up. It's Hawaii after all.

Overall ProgressivePunch scores:

Hirono - 98.82
Schatz - 98.40
Hanabusa - 90.57

Big whoop Roll Eyes Her voting record would probably become more liberal as a Senator anyway, with the higher profile and each individual vote counting more. It's not like Hawaii is going to take her out for doing so. Not that she could be that much more liberal.

I have no problem with supporting the technically more liberal candidate, but acting like Hanabusa is a DINO is, well, the kind of thing Republican RINO witch hunts are made of. Hyperbolic bullsh**t.

I don't see the problem with EMILY's List supporting Hanabusa either. Sorry, but even if a man votes the right way 100% of the time, he'll never care about womens issues as much as a woman with the same beliefs does. They may be sincere in their beliefs, but they'll never have the experience of being a woman.

It's the same for anything - civil rights, gay rights, whatever. If you live it, your passion will be more focused on that issue.

And they only exist to get pro-choice women elected so I don't see why it's so outrageous anyway. Schatz supporters creating controversy out of nothing.
