Any objections to this being split?

Lock this thread Alcon. That way opebo can't delete his posts.

Actually, you can, and this was proven when I deleted my vote from the locked February Fantasy election.

It is still illegal for heterosexuals to have anal sex in the U.K (it's technically Gross Indecency) although I should add that I don't think anyone's been prosecuted cos of it for years.

I honestly doubt this law is still in force - I've never heard it or heard reference to it, though it is difficult to obtain access to some of the older statutes. If it is still on the statute books, we've probably not prosecuted since WW2.

Actually, thats not entirely accurate:

It is not illegal to pay for sex, except where the prostitute is under 18; It is however illegal to maintain a brothel (defined as a place where two or more women work as prostitutes) or buy sex from one (though apparently not to simply work in one), to solicit clients, it is illegal for a client to approach a person more than once for the purposes of buying sex.

It is possible to operate as a prostitute in the UK, its just that the way in which you advertise is very restrained.

well even if opebo were a British citizen, I doubt the British government could arrest him for having sex with prostitutes in Thailand, and even if it was legal it doesn't seem like it'd be high on their priority list.

The British government can do this, though I have no idea how much they enforce it.

that's a little worrisome. Does that mean they can arrest people who take weekend trips to the Netherlands and spend the whole weekend stoned? I heard that was common for college students near the Channel.

To my knowledge it only applies to serious offences: It applies to sexual offences under the Sexual Offences Act of 2003.

I would seriously doubt that the government has legislated to extend it to drug taking.

People can be (and are) extridited though

Extradition is an entirely different kettle of fish to criminal proceedings relating to activity abroad. Theoretically I could be extradited to Spain for unpaid parking fines (if I had any, which I don't). In the cited example, Holland has no laws against cannabis use, so it wouldn't be possible to extradite a citizen there since there are no criminal accusations under Dutch Law.

The list for which you can be prosecuted is very short and is I think just war crimes, murder and serious sexual offences and a collection of specific terrorist offences.
