I will be watching, of course. Also not a fan of the gimmicks, but will admit that last season was one of the best in years! There wasn't much dirty play but a lot of great gameplay and blindsides!!!

Haven't started watching yet but Mike was robbed last season
Yeah he was most deserving but I wonder if people thought Nick needed the money more. I'm always a proponent that the best player wins no matter what, that is how the game should be played.

As for last night - it was an OK premiere. Didn't see a lot of big personalities or villains emerge. Reem could have been fun - we'll see if she makes it back in.

Last night was the Tony show, but I agree with MasterJedi - I could easily see everyone else teaming up next week and taking him out (though they'll have to be careful since he has an idol).

Right now it is a game of duos:
Ben and Sarah (yuck)
Kim and Denise (my two favorites left)
Nick and Tony (morons)
Jeremy and Michelle (I like them, but don't think either have played a great game)

Hopefully they take out Tony next vote, then Kim and Denise team back up with Jeremy and Michelle to knock out Nick, Tony, Ben and Sarah. Still have the EoE wildcard to consider as well.

Parvati said at the beginning of the season that "we'd like who is in the finale." Maybe she was just throwing a curveball, but I can't imagine a scenario where Sarah or Nick make it as both are pretty universally unpopular. Arguably the same with Ben, though he has some fans.

I actually see Michelle as a dark horse for being among the final three, if not the winner.
Sophie was so smart, I loved her. One thing she brought up last night that I thought was good - it's not always about making the biggest moves, it is about making the smart moves to get you to the end. That is what Michelle has been doing and she may be able to pitch it pretty well to the jury. Winning an immunity challenge would help her case.

^^Harry, there was a whole Reddit dive/research on the politics of each contestant at the start of the season, I'll try to find it and share it in here. Pretty sure Tony is a liberal, also, Sarah is a Trump voter.

My thoughts on the finale: I like an underdog story and was never a fan of the Tony-Sarah-Ben alliance, so found myself rooting for Natalie and Michelle. However, upon reflection, I think Tony deserved the win, he played a fantastic game. I will give Natalie credit for doing an incredible job on the EoE, but ultimately, I don't think what happens there should equate to what is happening in-game. She was lucky to make it to the finale, but made a couple of critical mistakes along the way that weakened her argument.

I felt bad for Michelle that she got 0 votes, I think she should be proud of the game. A lot of the contestants were anti-EoE going into it which I think hurt Natalie. From some post-finale interviews, Michelle claims there were several that had planned to vote for her, but voted for Tony instead to block Natalie from winning. If only the vote was IRV. Tongue I liked Sarah's women's empowerment speech, then found it ironic how she so blatantly propped Tony up as she was getting her torch snuffed and then voted for him, considering there were two well-deserving women also sitting there.

I liked the pace of the finale, but am sad there was no reunion element - I always enjoy hearing what they say after the fact.

Compiled list of guesses based mostly from Twitter. Pretty close to your list, Harry!

I need to sit down and rank the seasons, but I also wouldn't consider 40 a great season - the show has just gotten a bit overcomplicated in my opinion, they need to go back to the basics again. People overthink it so much, it'd almost be fun if they have a season with no immunity idols in advantages - people wouldn't know what to do!!! I know that won't happen, just wishful thinking...

Season 39 goes down as one of the worst with the Dan controversy - you'd think with after how that season went, a woman would have won, but nope, the only woman who made the family was totally out there and had no shot. Also Dean should have won, but I digress. I also wasn't a fan of Redemption Island - everyone was excited for Rob and Russell to battle it out, then Rob got voted out, played the twist, and then he just embarrassed all of the players. In general, I'm just not a fan of people being able to come back after being voted out.

Rob never got out in Redemption Island.
Sorry, I'm getting my seasons confused. It was Russell who got out right away, then. I just remember them hyping up those two and then one got voted out right away!! Nevertheless, it was a bit pathetic seeing Rob completely steamroll everyone. I was slightly worried that would happen at WoW when they split into 3 camps, but luckily Ben and Adam wised up.

Hey...we are pretty much in agreement on all of these! Wanted to give a special shoutout on Season 39...as awful as the season was, I totally agree with you that Dean should have won! I'm still bitter about that.

This autumn is going to be a dead-zone for television in general.
Agreed, I'm dreading it. Probably will be when I fully commit to watching through Survivor Australia. At least we'll likely have Big Brother, I've seen on Reddit that we should hear something from CBS this week about their plans for it.

As for Survivor filming...I always thought it would be neat to do a season based in the U.S. One of the territories probably makes the most sense as it can still have the same look/feel, or Alaska. Just have be careful with filming to prevent spoilers.

Excited for the new season to start on Wednesday! Interesting to see how it is changed with the shortened schedule.
