Town Hall Presidential Debate: Bloomberg Responds - Part 2

Michael Bloomberg answers questions at the Town Hall Presidential Debate

If I am given the opportunity to serve as your President, my first priority would be to end the Iraq War and create a new strategy in Afghanistan. It is absolutely essential to our country's safety that we win the War on Terror, and it will be the top priority in my administration. I would immediately begin phasing out the War in Iraq in a responsible manner, then provide relief to military families and bolster our efforts in Afghanistan, helping enable us to capture and kill Bin Laden and crush Al Qaeda once and for all.

Secondly, our economy is hurting, and it's essential that we enact policies that bring down the deficit, as well as the unemployment rate. Our nation has now gone through years of reckless spending, something both Republicans and Democrats are responsible for, and it's something that I will not tolerate as President. Spending will be reduced, and fair taxes will be implemented - those on the higher income levels should pay a little bit more. I'm running for President so that we can leave our children with a better America than the one I've had, and quite frankly, with all of the debt that's accumulating, I don't think we are on track to do that. I aim to fix that.

Finally, it's essential that we begin nation building here at home. Our education system continues to fall further and further behind, and almost nothing is being done about it. I hope to model other nations, such as Germany or Scandinavia, in placing a heavier emphasis in math and science, ensuring smaller class sizes, and using technological advancements to improve learning. We can create jobs by investing in our infrastructure, improving roads and bridges, as well as promoting high-speed rail lines. Finally, we must take a serious look at the issue of gun control. As the co-founder of Mayor's Against Illegal Guns, I believe that guns should be legal, but laws should be imposed that creates a safer America than the one we're currently living with, where dozens die each day due to gunfire. That's why within the first one-hundred days, my administration will propose legislation requiring background checks on all gun purchases.  Such a common-sense solution has been blocked for years due to special interest groups that control our legislators - such will not be the case when I'm President.

Like so many families in America has to do when facing tough situations, we're going to have to prioritize, and see what programs need to continue on and which programs we can do without. As President, I want to go line by line through every item in our federal budget and cut back where we can, while also making sure that those that do work, work more efficiently. And that includes entitlement programs - millions of dollars are thrown away each year due to inefficiency and a lack of responsibility.

Now, I'm here tonight saying that we're going to make entitlement programs more efficient, and that does include making cuts to make our government leaner. However, we're not going to gut programs - those on Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security - you will be protected, don't worry. These programs provide a safety net for those in need, and unlike Governor Dean, who once referred to Medicare as "one of the worst federal programs ever", I believe that while reforms certainly need to be made, it is essential that we continue to protect our Seniors who have already paid into it, and as President, I pledge to seniors that deep cuts to Medicare will not occur. While tough reforms need to be made to ensure Medicare and Medicaid remain sustainable for the future, we cannot undermine the guarantee at its core.

As this is the final question of the night, I want to take a moment once again to thank you all for coming our tonight, as well as to the millions of Americans tuning in right now. I think we all know that America is facing difficult times. The policies of the last eight years, and Washington's unwillingness to tackle tough problems for decades has left us in an economic crisis and uncertainty abroad. We need a fundamental change in this country - throw out the special interests and stop letting party leaders dictate our policies - that's what I'd like to bring as President. It has been an honor meeting Americans of many different walks of life over the past few months, and I'm thankful to have heard your stories. America's best days are ahead of her, I am sure of it. I'm running for President on a proven record of change and bi-partisanship. I ask tonight that you stand with me in this fight to return the government to the people. Thank you, and God Bless.

OOC: Why aren't you spending this time preparing debate answers so we're not stuck waiting on people like we were last time? It's ridiculous how long it's taking people to answer five questions.

Also, your ad is factually impossible as in this timeline, there was no stock market crash, meaning no bailout.

Good afternoon!

The polls are tightening! Each day, our campaign continues to gain momentum, and I know that we will continue this campaign all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! Nebraska plays a crucial role in getting us there, hence why our campaign is investing time in Nebraska while others ignore it. I know that on election night, Nebraska will surprise the nation by voting for the Bloomberg/Bayh ticket!

I'm proud to have the endorsement of strong executives around this nation, from Mayor Nutter in Philadelphia, to Mayor Newsom in San Fransisco, as well as a foreign policy leader in Colin Powell. All of these folks understand something that few in Washington seem to get - in order to get things done and move this country back on the right track, we need to start listening to the people. We need to ignore the party bosses and special interests and work across party lines to get the job done. I don't have a party - I don't have a side. As President, I will act in the best interests of the American people, and with that, will work with both sides to find solutions to get this country moving again. Thank you, and God Bless!

Announcer: Michael Bloomberg...successful businessman, dedicated Mayor. As Mayor, New York City has seen expanded economic growth, a balanced budget, and improved working conditions.

Joe Lieberman: It's Time for Michael Bloomberg!

AP - A pleasant surprise came to the Bloomberg campaign today when a close friend of John McCain and former Vice Presidential nominee for the Democratic Party Joe Lieberman (D-CT) formally endorsed Michael Bloomberg. His endorsement not only boosts Bloomberg on foreign policy, but also gives him the support of almost every leader in Connecticut, a state many are starting to believe will fall into the Bloomberg column on Election Night. Joe Lieberman has also been seen as a political leader of the Jewish community, so his endorsement should help Bloomberg, who is also Jewish, with the Jewish vote.

Joe Lieberman joins the Bloomberg Camp

I have great respect for John McCain, and consider him a dear friend. However, putting personal feelings aside, I formally endorse Michael Bloomberg and Evan Bayh today. Mike's campaign is all about bi-partisanship and moderation, which is something I am all about as well. Eight years is enough - I am tired of the way Washington D.C. is trending, and I think if we continue to elect the same time of leaders, it's only going to get worse. Electing Bloomberg may be our last chance to start turning this country around before we erupt into complete chaos.

My concern with Bloomberg, for a while, had been his experience on foreign policy, especially compared to Senator McCain's. However, the last debate convinced me that not only is Mike clearly the most prepared to help salvage our economy, but he would also serve the best as Commander-In-Chief, and I have full confidence in his abilities.

I ask the good people of Connecticut, as well as those across America, to join me in electing real leaders to the White House on November 4th. Join me in supporting Michael Bloomberg and Evan Bayh.

Nancy Reagan: I'm Voting For Bloomberg!

AP - Michael Bloomberg's standing with conservatives improved today when Nancy Reagan, wife of former President Ronald Reagan, endorsed his campaign. While citing her husband would have likely supported McCain, Reagan cited the need for out-of-the-box thinking as her reason for endorsing Bloomberg.

Nancy Reagan lends her support to Bloomberg

Today, I am proud to announce that I will be voting for Mayor Bloomberg and Senator Bayh on November 4th.

We need out-of-the-box thinking in Washington D.C. As President, Ronnie worked with a Democratic Congress to solve our nations problems, and our country as a whole benefited from this instance of bi-partisanship.

Now, Ronnie may be supporting McCain if he were still with us today, due to ideological reasons. But I'm looking past ideology today - our nation is declining, and I think we need something special, something different, to get the job done. George Washington warned us of the dangers of political parties, and he's absolutely right: they're largely responsible for the state we're in today. Michael Bloomberg represents bi-partisan leadership - he's not tied down to a political party, trying to persuade his decisions, as Bush has been, and as Governor Dean and Senator McCain would be.

I urge my fellow Americans to not vote by party, but to vote by principle. Vote for real leadership: Vote Michael Bloomberg!

Mark Kirk: Bloomberg or Dean? I'll take Bloomberg

AP - Bloomberg's chances of winning Illinois improved today when Congressman Mark Kirk (R-IL) endorsed his campaign for President, citing that the race was essentially down to Bloomberg and Dean, and Bloomberg is the better option.

Mark Kirk says he'll vote for Bloomberg

Like most Republicans, when this race started, I supported Senator McCain. He has more experience than any other candidate, and at the beginning appeared poised to victory.

However, since then, his campaign has been lackluster, and he has disappeared from the trail at times. His debate performances have been average at best, and he wasn't even able to answer the remaining questions in the last debate. The only bright spot for the campaign has been George Pataki's debate performance, and he was only able to tie Evan Bayh.

The polls are showing what many of us in the Republican Party have feared - this race is turning into a race between Howard Dean and Michael Bloomberg. Unless we see a miraculous turnaround and a resounding debate win, John McCain's chances at becoming President are unfortunately over. With that being said, I fear what would happen under a Dean administration, considering all of the divisive and downright hateful things he has said about Republicans in the past. I want a President who can work with both sides, a President who can unify our nation, instead of bringing increased partisanship. Michael Bloomberg is clearly that candidate, and it's why I'll be voting for him in November. I urge my fellow Republicans to join me in supporting him to make sure that Howard Dean is not the 44th President of the United States!

Michael Bloomberg Campaign Ad: Tired

The Bloomberg/Bayh campaign has released the following television ad, which will air in the following states through Election Day:

Bloomberg: I'm Michael Bloomberg, and I approve of this message because I'm tired. I'm tired of the reckless spending in Washington. I'm tired of a government that seeks to please special interest groups and party bosses, rather than constituents. And I'm tired of sending back the same people to Washington, over and over again.

I'm running for President because I'm tired of what's happening in this country, and I'm ready to change it. It's time for leadership that is ready to work with both sides to overcome our nation's obstacles, rather than continue to tear each other down. If you desire this type of leadership, I humbly ask for your support on Election Day. Thank you.

Michael Bloomberg Campaign Ad: Fiscal Responsibility

Michael Bloomberg has released the following television ad, which will air in the following states, with an emphasis on conservative states:

Bloomberg: For too long, we have had leaders in Washington who are more concerned about pleasing special interest groups than pleasing the American people. As a result, we have a budget that is spiraling out of control.

As Mayor, I worked with Republicans and Democrats to turn a five billion dollar deficit into a four billion dollar surplus, and we were also able to provide homeowner tax credits, as well as other tax breaks. As President, I'll promote fiscal responsibility, just like I did as Mayor.

Bohlinger: Let's Put Montana in the Bloomberg Column!

AP - Earlier today, Lt. Governor John Bohlinger (R-MT) formally endorsed Michael Bloomberg for President, breaking ties with his running mate and close friend, Brian Schweitzer.

John Bohlinger endorses Michael Bloomberg, urges Montanans to do the same

Today, I am announcing my support of Michael Bloomberg and Evan Bayh.

I'm proud to be a Montanan, a state known for it's independence. That much is shown by the fact that it voted for a ticket including a Republican and a Democrat on it for Governor, and we won! We are a state known for bucking the trend, for doing things our own way and ignoring party affiliation. With all that being said, it would make perfect sense for Montana to vote for Michael Bloomberg in a couple weeks.

Now, I don't agree with Mike on everything - I certainly have some big disagreements in him. But with Mike, I know we would have a President who will always act in the best interests of his constituents, not the Washington elites or special interest groups. We would have a President who, on day one, will work with Republican and Democrats to get the job done, and won't belittle and demonize the opposition, as we've seen Governor Dean do.

I have great respect for Senator McCain, and I thank him for his many years of service to our nation. But now, I believe it is time for new leadership, and a new direction. Michael Bloomberg is the only candidate in this race who can provide that, which is why I support his bid to become the next President of the United States!

Pomeroy: I like Mike!

AP - Adding to the momentum, Congressman Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) announced his endorsement of Michael Bloomberg and Evan Bayh.

Congressman Earl Pomeroy endorses Bloomberg

I'm fed up with what's going on in Washington D.C.

I'm fed up with the corruption, the backroom deals, and of politicians who are completely sold out to special interest groups.

I know North Dakotans, as well as most other Americans, share my sentiments. If you feel this way, then join me in bucking the trend and voting for a bi-partisan leader: Michael Bloomberg. While others have ignored North Dakota, Mayor Bloomberg has been here since the beginning, having more campaign offices here and making more stops here. It's nice to see North Dakota on the map again after being ignored by the big parties each cycle. That's what I like about Bloomberg - he's running as a candidate for all of America, not just the swing states. His campaign has spent energy in states that are almost always ignored, like North Dakota. Thanks to him, almost every state in our nation is a battelground state, and that's exactly how it should be.

We have a real opportunity in this election to say no to the party bigwhigs and elect someone with a proven record of getting things done. We'd be foolish to pass up on this opportunity. There are many moderate Democrats out there who I know have similar feelings - let's stand up against the partisanship and elect one of us, a moderate, to the White House.

Giuliani: "Unsure" on Presidential Race

AP - Long thought to be a supporter of Senator McCain and Governor Pataki, "America's Mayor" Rudy Giuliani (R-NY) expressed today a great deal of uncertainty, indicating he may be leaning towards Bloomberg.

You know, if you had asked me a month or two ago, I would have said that I'd vote for McCain. Mike and I have a close relationship, but I do acknowledge that I am closer politically to Senator McCain, and it also helps that he has George [Pataki] as his running mate. Since then, however, Michael Bloomberg has ran an excellent campaign, while Senator McCain has struggled a bit.

Being a New Yorker, I witnessed Mike as Mayor, and I have been thoroughly impressed by the job he's done. He's a real leader, something that is hard to come by in Washington, and I know he isn't afraid of standing up to the party leaders and special interests in Washington. The final debate will help decide things for me, but right now, I'm seriously contemplating voting for Bloomberg/Bayh.

Michael Bloomberg Campaign Schedule: October 21st - 27th

October 21st: Accompanied by Tim Cahill, Lincoln Chafee, and Jodi Rell
Campaign Rally - Boston, Massachusetts
Meet and Greet - Warwick, Rhode Island
Campaign Rally - Hartford, Connecticut
Town Hall Meeting - Waterbury, Connecticut

Mayor Bloomberg fires up a crowd in Hartford, Connecticut

Thank you all for being here today! It's great to be here today in this beautiful state with your incredible Governor, Jodi Rell, as well as with your Congressman Chris Shays!

Jodi and I have our differences, but one thing special we have in common is our desire to compromise and work with individuals of all ideologies to create better opportunities for our constituents. Here in Connecticut, Dave has worked with Democratic majorities to achieve fiscal responsibility, bring about more economic stability, despite the Bush economy, and make improvements to the education system. The sense of compromise and working together that we've see here in Connecticut should be a model for the rest of our nation, and as President, it's exactly the kind of leadership I hope to bring.

I'm not a Republican, nor am I a Democrat. I think both sides have contributed to the mess we are in, largely due to the special interests that have taken over our nation. As President, I will seek to end their presence in Washington by banning them from the chamber. They certainly won't have any sort of impact on my decisions as President - I will only be looking out for the interests of our nation and her people.

October 22nd: Accompanied by Mayor Amicone and Oprah Winfrey
Meet and Greet - Yonkers, New York
Campaign Rally - New York City, New York
Town Hall Meeting - Elizabeth, New Jersey
Campaign Rally - Newark, New Jersey
Appearance on The Jay Leno Show

Mayor Bloomberg greets voters in New York City, New York

It's great to be here in my home city! It has been a privilege serving as your Mayor, and hopefully, together, we can bring the state of New York into the Bloomberg/Bayh column on Election Night!

Evan and I have real solutions for this nation. It involves idea's from both parties. Now, Howard Dean calls me spineless for having such a position, but then again, look at his divisive record as DNC Chairman and it should come as a surprise to no one that he chastises someone with a bi-partisan record and moderate positions. Senator Murray, like Governor Dean, is just spreading attacks that may sound good on soundbites, but simply aren't true. We won't be a continuation of the last eight years, not in the slightest. A Bloomberg-Bayh administration will seek to create fair tax rates, understanding that the rich can pay a little more, as well as bring a close to the Iraq war and cutting all of the wasteful, pork spending in Washington. In doing so, we're not only going to balance the budget, but we're going to be able to invest more in creating a better opportunity for Americans with better jobs and an improved education system.

I'm fed up with the two-party system in America - if you are too, I humbly ask for your support on November 4th!

October 23rd: Accompanied by Oprah Winfrey and Mike Castle
Meet and Greet - Bear, Delaware
Campaign Rally - Baltimore, Maryland
Town Hall Meeting - Columbia, Maryland
Campaign Rally - Annapolis, Maryland
Appearance on Chris Matthews Hardball

Oprah speaks at a rally in Baltimore, Maryland

Good afternoon!

I'm happy to be spending the next week campaigning with Michael Bloomberg, and let me just emphasize how excited I am to end this error and elect real leadership to the White House next month!

Like many here in Baltimore and across the Northeast, I am a proud liberal, but before anything, I am an American. I ran for President on the belief that we have a government that isn't working for us, rather, for itself. We have politicians who don't care too much about representing their constituents, but are rather focused on the interest groups and party bosses. I sought to bring change within the Democratic party, though ultimately, our efforts fell short. I chose not to endorse Governor Dean because his divisive nature is one of the main issues wrong with our country. We need leaders who are not only ready to represent the people, but are also ready to cooperate and work together. I endorsed Mayor Bloomberg because not only does he have the best record of the candidates in terms of bi-partisanship, but because he has shown himself to be a true leader, putting the people's interests ahead of his own. Michael Bloomberg is a candidate who will fight in the interests of the Black Community, just as he's done as Mayor.

My friends, we need Mayor Bloomberg and Senator Bayh to be our President and Vice President. They may not be the leaders some of us originally wanted, but they are the leaders we need. Thank you, and God Bless!

October 24th: Accompanied by Oprah Winfrey
Campaign Rally - Alexandria, Virginia
Meet and Greet - Stafford, Virginia
Meet and Greet - Milford, Virginia
Campaign Rally - Richmond, Virginia
Flies to Illinois

Mayor Bloomberg gives a stirring speech in Richmond, Virginia

Virginia - in a few weeks, you will have tremendous power. You will have the ability to create change in our nation. We have the power and the ability to fundamentally build and grow America in a positive way for the next four years, rather that continue down the decline we're currently going through. We have the ability to build on a progressive and positive economic platform that will invest our resources here at home to put Americans to work, boosting our economy through empowering small businesses and entrepreneurs across this great country.

Throughout America, citizens are frustrated by Republicans and Democrats who parrot old ideas, yet when they get into power, little is actually done. This upcoming election is about much more than who will be our President, it is about choices and choosing the future of America. The path we are currently on, and some of the paths offered to us in this election, will continue to lead us down a dark path.

I am running for President, not for the title or the prestige, but because I have a truly unique vision for this country, a vision rarely seen in presidential races, and this vision can be achieved with the right leadership and a unified country. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can move this country forward. God Bless you all!

October 25th: Accompanied by Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Brinker, and Mark Kirk
Campaign Rally - Naperville, Illinois
Meet and Greet - Cicero, Illinois
Town Hall Meeting - South Side, Illinois
Speech at NAACP Meeting - Chicago, Illinois
Appearance on Glenn Beck

Mayor Bloomberg speaks at a rally in Naperville, Illinois

I saw another creative advertisement from the Dean Campaign this week, falsely stating that poverty has risen while I've been Mayor, while also stating I had no position on the Iraq War. Governor Dean must have been asleep during the last debate, because I outlined clearly what I thought about Iraq, and apparently better than he did, as the polls show that I won the debate! When President Bush made the decision to enter into Baghdad, I supported the President, as did most Americans, including some of the same Democratic Senators that Governor Dean has asked to campaign for him in this race! I think that's a much more noble position than Governor Dean, who went around the country in 2003 mocking the President, even going as far as to call for an investigation on whether or not President Bush had prior knowledge that 9/11 would happen.

Though I supported it originally, the war has been badly mishandled, as most would agree to. I've outlined a clear plan to immediately begin withdrawing troops from Iraq, and instead focus our attention on Afghanistan, where al Qaeda is growing stronger by the day and Osama Bin Laden continues on. Now is not the time for timid leadership, and it certainly won't be something I'll bring as President!

Michael Bloomberg speaks at a rally in Detroit, Michigan

As Mayor, businesses expanded in New York City. Our unemployment fell, and we did this also while cutting spending and balancing the budget. While we were having this success in New York City, what were President Bush and Senator McCain up to in Washington D.C.? They were putting our country in trillions of dollars in debt and drudging on in an unpopular war. The policies of Bush-McCain have hurt this country economically, and we simply can't afford four more years of this.

Washington D.C. has a spending problem, and both sides are equally responsible for it. Now, I've been attacked in the race as being an elitist rich guy. You know what, I'll admit it - I am rich. I've been very fortunate in my life to have made smart business decisions to get me where I am today. It's not something I'm ashamed of, and I stand by it. What I also stand by is my record as Mayor and my plan as President, a plan that isn't for elitists, but a plan that requires our nation's wealthiest to pay their fair share, end the reckless spending domestically and abroad, and creating a stimulus to boost our economy. This isn't an elitist plan - it's a plan that will get this country working again!

Mary Bono Mack addresses a crowd in San Francisco, California

My friends, we have a real opportunity this election. For as long as I can remember, Americans have been generally unfavorable to the two-party system, believing that both sides contribute to our nation's problems and that Washington D.C. is too partisan. And you're right - Washington has gotten too political, too partisan.

This election, we finally have a real opportunity to kick out the D.C. establishment and elect a third-party candidate. Just a couple months ago, Mike was polling in the teens, and look how far we've come! But we still have work to do - California is the most important state in this election, as it largely holds the key on whether or not Mike can reach 270 Electoral Votes. California could go either way at this point, between Dean and Bloomberg. Senator McCain is polling at just 17%. To those 17%, I ask you - who would you rather have as President? A pragmatic, bi-partisan Mayor who is eager to work with both sides to solve our nations problems, or the former DNC Chairman who has chastised Republicans, even going as far as to say he hates us and everything we stand for? Please join me in putting California in the Bloomberg column on Election Night - we cannot afford four years of a Dean Administration!

Hey you guys, I'm sorry I've been AWOL.  I had some relatives over to visit over the past few days, so I haven't had much time to post an update.  I would like to announce that I am resigning from the game and offering Senator McCain to anyone who is interested.
When will you be available again? Julio is also on vacation. It would be weird to have someone start up as McCain with just two weeks remaining.

Depending on your answer, I propose we freeze the game for a few days until Julio is back and Oldies can post again. Do others agree?

OOC: Would Nader's answers actually fit within the time slots debates give the candidates?

Ask NHI. I think that's a legitimate question.

I decided against updating on Saturday. You'll have it on Friday. You still have time to prepare speeches and release some ads until then. And some candidates still have to release their schedules.

To NHI - when will debate answers be due? I have mine all done, I just originally deleted it because I realized I had forgot to include the question on gold standard.

Final Presidential Debate: Bloomberg Responds

Michael Bloomberg answers questions at the Final Presidential Debate

I want to first, thank the debate commission, Bob, thank you, and to the millions of Americans who decided to tune into tonight's debate. Thank you.

I believe the primary lesson of the Iraq war is that if you have a weak strategy and poor leadership, you won't have a successful operation. As a nation, we celebrated when we went into Baghdad, and we celebrated when Saddam Hussein was captured. And unlike Governor Dean, who stated that he "supposes" Iraq is better off without Hussein, the Iraqi's, especially the Kurdish people who were targeted for years by him, are much better off with Saddam out of power. However, the efforts since then have been badly mishandled. This war has cost us over $600 billion dollars, 4,000 Americans have lost their lives, and an additional 30,000 are wounded. Our image abroad has been damaged as a result of the war.

Strategically, our efforts should have been concentrated on Afghanistan - finding Osama Bin Laden and defeat al Qaeda. Our financial efforts should also be concentrated here at home, where this administration has let our budget go out of control and our economy gets weaker with each passing day. The lessons to be drawn from Iraq is that while we should never be afraid of using military force in order to keep Americans safe. But we have to use our military force wisely, and we haven't done so by prolonging the war in Iraq.

In my first hundred days, I plan to sit down with President Calderón and discuss what both countries can do to help alleviate the drug cartel issue we face near the border. However, I do not believe drug legalization here would solve the problem, and it is not a position that my administration will support. That being said, I think an effort to partly decriminalize non-violent drug use should be made - currently, we're putting non-violent drug offenders in prison with murderers and rapists, sometimes in jail for longer periods of time. This is simply an absurd policy, and as President, I'll seek to create reasonable punishments for drug users.

As the Iranians continue on the path of attaining nuclear weapons, it becomes a greater and greater threat to the United States, our allies, primarily Israel, and to the entire stability in the Middle East. Israel is our greatest ally in the Middle East, possibly in the world. As President, I pledge that America will continue to stand with Israel. It is essential that we do whatever is required to prevent Iran attaining a nuclear weapon, as they could easily fall into the hands of terrorists as a result, and I fear what would happen if that occurred.

There are strategies we can implement: if we work with other countries to tighten sanctions on Iran, reduce our energy dependence on the Middle East, which would put more of a squeeze on Iran financially, and I would support have direct talks with the Iranian government, letting them know that if their behavior remains the same, there will be consequences, that other alternatives would be beneficial to both parties. This strategy may not work, but what I know won't work for certain is the status quo implemented by President Bush in not talking to them. When that strategy was decided, Iran became even closer to nuclear weapons, as did North Korea. We're going to have to have talks with them, while also having an understanding that we're not taking military force off the table.

I'll be brief here, because I think the answer is quite obvious. I believe the past essentially sums up what decision should be made - under the gold standard, America had no major financial panics...other than in 1873, 1884, 1907, 1930-1933, and several more. All the evidence I have seen has shown nothing but negativity from the Gold Standard. That's not a record I feel comfortable throwing my support behind, and it is not one I will allow as President.

All along, the real target should have been Afghanistan - finding Osama Bin Laden and crushing al Qaeda. We took our eye off the ball by invading Iraq, and it's a mistake my administration will not repeat. Before entering any conflict, there are several questions we must ask ourselves: How much is it going to cost? What will our exit strategy be? How will it affect our global standing? And as it relates to the Iraq war, is our intelligence sound? These are questions I would discuss with my national security advisers before making any decision, and they are questions I don't think were thoroughly discussed under the Bush administration.

Largely due to Iraq, our standing around the world has undoubtedly deteriorated under the Bush Administration, and whoever wins this election will be given the responsibility of restoring our image. This won't be done overnight, but by winding down the Iraq War and renewing our commitment to fighting terrorism, I believe we can start healing our image, and thus, our influence on others.

First, I would like to thank the commission and my opponents for participating in these informative debates. The real winners of the debates has been the American people, who have four qualified tickets to choose from.

I offer a new approach, a new vision for this country. It's not the trickle-down economy that has failed America for decades. Americans are now working harder for less, more are uninsured, and we are falling into a recession. The American people do not deserve this. We can do better. We need a government, an administration, that is ready to invest and grow this nation, putting our constituents first - ensuring health care is a fundamental right, making our education system second to none, and protecting our senior citizens.

Putting you first...that's my commitment to you. Doing so can open us up to a whole new world of opportunities. America was the country of the twentieth century. I aim to put America on track towards being the country of the twenty-first century as well. This country has been marred by war, a poor economy, and increased partisanship. As President, we'll end the Iraq war responsibly, invest in our economy, and unite our country, not bring further division. That's why I propose here tonight that immediately after the certification of the election results, whenever that may be, that the four candidates meet privately and have an honest discussion about moving this country forward. This isn't about winning an election - this is about making fundamental changes to a country that is headed in the wrong direction.

Doing this won't take miracles, and it won't happen overnight. But if we are united together, we can turn things around if we all have the courage to bring real change to America. Thank you all, and God Bless.

Bumpers: Bloomberg Right for Arkansas!

AP - Speaking at a rally today in Arkansas, former US Senator Dale Bumpers (D-AR) formally endorsed Michael Bloomberg for President.

I'm hopping on the wagon late, but better late than never! I'm proud and honored to be standing here today with Blanche, announcing my support for Michael Bloomberg and encouraging other Arkansans to follow suit. The polls are showing a close race, but I know that if we all work at it, we can bring Arkansas into the Bloomberg column on Election Night!

Hardberger: Bloomberg Most Competent

I've sat back for the past few months and closely watched this campaign, and I must say, I am very impressed by the campaign Michael Bloomberg has ran. He comes across as the most genuine, and despite his wealth, I truly believe he is the candidate for the middle class, the candidate for the everyday American.

It is my pleasure to announce my support for Michael Bloomberg - winning Texas may be a longshot, but it is something that I know can be done. Get out the vote, San Antonio, and vote for Michael Bloomberg!

Fouts: Bloomberg for President

AP - The Mayor of Warren, Michigan, James Fouts (I), announced his support for Michael Bloomberg today at a town hall meeting.

I support Michael Bloomberg for President, and here's why: Here in Michigan, our economy is struggling. Detroit's unemployment is one of the highest in the nation, and it's trickling down to affect the rest of the state at all. Bush's economic policies have failed America, and they have especially failed Michigan. I have great respect for McCain, and appreciate the time he has spent in the state, but his policies would only be a continuation of what we've seen, and we simply cannot afford that.

Michael Bloomberg has a plan to get America back to work. He's proposed sensible reforms, both conservative and liberal ideas, such as cutting taxes, balancing the budget, and raising taxes on those who can give more. I support Michael Bloomberg because he has a plan to get this nation back on the right track economically, and here in Michigan, that should be enough to get him over the top here.

Michael Bloomberg is the only candidate to have invested time and resources into Wyoming - I appreciate the fact he's essentially ran a 50-state campaign. It shows that we're not a lock for any candidate or party, but we're Independent here in Wyoming, and we're willing to hear other sides if they make the attempt. Mike has done that, and I think the good people of this state believe in what he says. I'm proud to join Governor Freudenthal in supporting Michael Bloomberg - I honestly believe he will carry this state on Election Night.
- Wyoming State Treasurer Joseph Meyer(R)

This has been a terrific campaign, and we really do have four qualified candidates running. One sticks out in my mind, and it isn't the man leading in the polls here in South Dakota, it's Michael Bloomberg. He's ran a great campaign, and the debates have convinced me that he's the most prepared to serve as our President. I urge my fellow South Dakotans to join me in shaking things up in Washington - let's put Michael Bloomberg in the White House!
- South Dakota SoS Jason Gant (R)

Despite being a swing-state, North Carolina hasn't received as much attention as I would have hoped. Nevertheless, I'm pleased to announce my endorsement of Michael Bloomberg today, and I hope he visits this state again, because I know a lot of folks here are ancy about this election - a late visit could bring this state into his column on Election Night, which would be a pleasant surprise.
- North Carolina Speaker Joe Hackney(D)

Nevada is a great state - unfortunately, the partisanship in Washington and in Reno have damaged our state economically. We need a President who can get us out of this mess and on to a path of fiscal responsibility. Michael Bloomberg is that candidate, and I'd encourage Nevadans to join me in voting third-party on Election Day!
- Former Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn(R)

Statement From The Bloomberg Campaign

We are ecstatic by the Mayor's recent debate performance - having won all three debates, the last one being the most crushing, this campaign has the wind at it's back, and on Election Day, and we believe we will cross the critical 270 Electoral Vote threshold.

America needs a new direction, and Michael Bloomberg and Evan Bayh provide just that. Here at home, they have a plan to balance the budget while putting more Americans back to work and investing in our infrastructure and education. But not only are they the most qualified to put our country on track economically, but they have also shown to be the most prepared on foreign policy, improving our national image while maintaining her strength. Our foreign policy campaign, unlike Governor Dean's, which revolves around the past, saying he was the only major candidate to oppose the Iraq War from the start, our campaign is about the future...it's about ending the war responsibly, standing strong with Israel, and defeating terrorism around the world.

Michael Bloomberg and Evan Bayh are ready to lead this nation, and we hope American's will give them that opportunity on November 4th.

10:30 AM - Campaign Rally - San Francisco, California
1:30 PM - Early Bird Gets The Worm (Early Voting GOTV Rally) - Oakland, California
4:00 PM - Town Hall Meeting - Concord, California
7:00 PM - Town Hall Meeting - Sacramento, California
9:30 PM - Appearance on California Tonight

Mayor Bloomberg gives a stirring speech in San Francisco, California

California - in a few days, you will have tremendous power.

October 29th: Campaigning with Colin Powell, Gavin Newsom, and Mary Bono Mack
8:00 AM - Breakfast with Supporters - Newburry Park, California
10:00 AM - Meet and Greet - North Valley, California
12:00 PM - Campaign Rally - Los Angelas, California
3:00 PM - Campaign Rally - Long Beach, California
8:30 PM - Campaign Rally - San Diego, California
Flies to Texas

October 30th: Campaigning with Colin Powell and San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger
8:00 AM - Meet and Greet - Irving, Texas
10:00 AM - Meet and Greet - Garland, Texas
12:30 PM - Campaign Rally - Dallas, Texas
4:00 PM - Campaign Rally - Fort Worth, Texas
7:30 PM - Appearance on Hannity
8:00 PM - Meeting with GOP Congressional Leaders - Dallas, Texas
Flies to Florida

Mayor Bloomberg speaks at a rally in Dallas, Texas

When President Bush made the decision to enter into Baghdad, I supported the President, as did most Americans, including some of the same Democratic Senators that Governor Dean has asked to campaign for him in this race. Look back, I regret that decision, but I think that it was a much more noble position than Governor Dean, who went around the country in 2003 mocking the President, even going as far as to call for an investigation on whether or not President Bush had prior knowledge that 9/11 would happen. That sort of partisanship isn't the type of President we need - we need a President who will lead us all, and Governor Dean won't do that.

We cannot afford four years of President Dean, and as things have shaped up, I am the only candidate who can prevent him from being elected by the Electoral College or House of Representatives. Texas, if you're as terrified of a President Dean as I am, I humbly ask for your vote on Election Day!

October 31st: Campaigning with Colin Powell and Congressman Canady
8:00 AM - Meet and Greet - Lakeside, Florida
10:00 AM - Campaign Rally - Jacksonville, Florida
1:45 PM - Meet and Greet - Macon, Georgia
4:30 PM - Meet and Greet - Peachtree City, Georgia
6:40 PM - Campaign Rally - Atlanta, Georgia

You know, several months ago, a Mississippi Congressman by the name of Gene Taylor said I was a bad candidate for the South. Yet here we are today, where our internals have us ahead in Arkansas and Florida, tied here in Georgia, and on the verge of an upset in Texas, North Carolina, and Virginia. If elected, I will be a President for every region, every party, every demographic. I'm tired of the partisanship that's been going on in Washington, and I know you are too. We have a real opportunity in this election to ditch the status quo and elect pragmatic, bi-partisan leaders. Georgia, I humbly ask for your support in a couple days - together, we will achieve victory!
- Michael Bloomberg, speaking at a rally in Jacksonville, Florida

November 1st: Campaigning with Colin Powell
8:00 AM - Meet and Greet - High Point, North Carolina
10:30 AM - Campaign Rally - Greensboro, North Carolina
12:30 PM - Campaign Rally - Raleigh, North Carolina
3:00 PM - Meet and Greet - Petersburg, Virginia
7:00 PM - Campaign Rally - Norfolk, Virginia
Flies to Minnesota

Mayor Bloomberg fires up a crowd in Raleigh, North Carolina

Thank you all for being here today! It's great to be here today in this beautiful state - North Carolina has not been given the attention it deserves this election cycle, and I hope that in just a couple days, you will vote for real change in this nation.

As Mayor, I worked with both Republicans and Democrats to balance a budget, using both conservative and liberal ideas. As Mayor, our graduation rates increased, our jobs market improved, and we achieved economic security, something that hasn't been done in many years. The sense of compromise and working together that was used in New York City should be the model for the rest of the nation, and as President, it is exactly the kind of leadership Evan Bayh and I will bring.

November 2nd: Campaigning with Colin Powell and Congressman Kirk
8:00 AM - Meet and Greet - Eden Prairie, Minnesota
10:30 AM - Campaign Rally - Minneapolis, Minnesota
3:00 PM - Campaign Rally - Madison, Wisconsin
5:00 PM - Meet and Greet - Rockford, Illinois
8:00 PM - Campaign Rally - Naperville, Illinois

November 3rd: Campaigning with Colin Powell and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter
8:00 AM - Meet and Greet - Dayton, Ohio
11:00 AM - Campaign Rally - Columbus, Ohio
2:45 PM - Campaign Rally - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
6:00 PM - Campaign Rally - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
9:15 PM - Campaign Rally - Staten Island, New York

Mayor Bloomberg greets voters in New York City, New York

It's great to be back in New York! It has been a privilege serving as Mayor of New York City, and hopefully, together, we can bring the state of New York into the Bloomberg/Bayh column tomorrow night!

We've come a long ways, and tomorrow night, the American people make the final say. I'm the only candidate who has campaigned in every state, and I've campaigned to every demographic. As President, I won't seek to please a party or a region - I'll be the President for all of America. I humbly ask for your support tomorrow - together, we can heal our nation! Thank you, and God Bless!

November 4th:
8:00 AM - Meet and Greet - New York City, New York
10:00 AM - Speaking to Volunteers at Campaign Headquarters - New York City, New York
12:00 PM - Vote - New York City, New York
1:00 PM - Assist in GOTV Efforts - New York City, New York
5:00 PM - Arrive at Madison Square Gardens to Watch Results - New York City, New York
