Mitt Romney stopped campaigning and withdrew his ads in South Carolina and Fred Thompson, who has been campaigning hard, is vying for third place with Romney.

Thompson has to drop out, and soon, and put an end to his misery.

Romney is polling close to Huckabee in early returns.

Likely won't happen, but if Romney finishes ahead of Huckabee, that would be hilarious.

Well, if McCain does win tonight, you are probably looking at the next president of the united states, especially if hillary is the democratic nominee. the republican race is over.

Oh yes, America is going to elect a doddering senior who reads his speeches and almost puts you to sleep while he's reading, and who supports an unpopular war, as President of the United States.

After Romney, McCain would by my second choice as the Republican Presidential nominee.

I don't mind Giuliani, in some respects, however, his candidacy is doomed.

The rest of the GOP field is comprised of total lightweights.

And no, the race for the GOP nomination is not over because McCain has won South Carolina.

We will now have to see how Super Tuesday unfolds.

If McCain does become the nominee, he would be well advised to pick Romney for VP, the one most capable of stepping into the Presidency should that become necessary.  At age 72, which is how old McCain would be if he is elected President, McCain is going to need a Vice President of substance, i.e. Romney.

McCain and Romney would just have to set aside the minor differences they have and work to move the nation forward.

If McCain is the nominee, next to Romney, my choice for Vice President would be Senator Mark Sanford of South Carolina.

I have named Sanford as my pick for VP several times previously in other threads.

Sanford is also my pick for VP if Romney is the Presidential nominee.

If we're talking VP's, Powell or Rice, especially if Obama isn't on the ticket.

Interesting picks, I very much like both of them, and both are absolutely capable of handling the job of Vice President, however, I believe  neither one would be considered.

Powell is 71 this year, same age as McCain.  McCain needs to have someone younger on the ticket.  Powell is too closely associated with the first Bush administration.

Rice is too closely tied to the Bush administration.

Both of them are out.

Sanford is the Governor.

Sorry, yes, I meant Governor.  Thank you for noticing.
