For New Jersey Senate at the time, Forrester would definitely have defeated the bribery candidate Torricelli.
The Democrats pulled a fast one to get Torricelli replaced by the ancient, yet recognizable, octogenarian Lautenberg, and New Jersey voters actually fell for it.
However, the tactic of putting an over the hill recognizable face on the ballot backfired for the Democrats when they put Mondale on the Senate ballot in Minnesota after the tragic death of Wellstone, when Mondale was beat by Coleman.
It was a new low in politics when the Democrats turned the "memorial" for Wellstone into a political pep rally for the worn out past his political expiry date Mondale.
