It's not going to be McCain as he's already gearing up for reelection and I feel would have trouble working with Obama, and Jack Reed has already shown that he is not interested. Who would you suggest?
I would have no problem with someone who has experience working in the DoD.
I would recommend outgoing Colorado Senator Mark Udall for Defense Secretary.
I am sure Udall would jump at the chance, and would not have any problem clearing confirmation.

Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities
Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support
Subcommittee on Strategic Forces (Chairman)
