I believe most are agreed that Sarah Palin was not the best pick by John McCain for VP in 2008, coming across as an airhead in many respects, and perceived by most as not Vice Presidential material, let alone Presidential material.
The number one rule for picking a Vice Presidential candidate is to pick someone who is capable of assuming the Presidency in the event something should happen to the President. In my view, McCain failed this criteria miserably.
In retrospect, who should John McCain have picked for Vice President other than Sarah Palin?
