Romney wins the nomination and suppose in order to keep peace in the party offers Santorum a cabinet posting before the convention, as Santorum has won much of the conservative GOP vote in the primaries.

Romney wins the election.

This being the case, what cabinet post would Romney and Santorum agree he would get?

It's against the law to offer cabinet positions to people before a presidential election.  But I suppose little details like that don't matter to Mitt Romney.

Okay, then he does what Bush did in 2000, when he said about Colin Powell in a speech he was making at a campaign rally.  I believe Powell may have introduced Bush at the rally, but am not sure.

Bush says referring to Powell

Wouldn't he make a great Secretary of State?

So, after Romney becomes the presumptive nominee, let's suppose that Santorum endorses Romney and introduces him at a campaign rally.  Then Romney says to the cheers of the crowd, and in throwing an olive branch to the social conservatives

Wouldn't Rick make a great member of my administration?

Aside from that, I've always said Santorum would be at the top of a "Potential Ambassadors to The Vatican" list for an incoming Republican President. I don't know that he'd get confirmed for anything else.

Honestly, I had never thought of Santorum being appointed as Ambassador to the Vatican, but that is a very interesting concept.

My own view is, however, that perhaps Santorum would want something more hands on, a cabinet or cabinet level  posting where he could really have some influence on the direction in some aspect of the administration.

And I don't know that the Santorums would really want to relocate their children, at least the ones still at home, to Rome for four years.  Just my thoughts however.

It's unlikely that Mitt Romney will have any cabinet members who are not Mormons.

You are of course joking, but I can see Romney limiting to one, besides himself of course, the number of Mormons in cabinet, so as not to show favortism.
