It's unfortunate that we don't have much participation. The problem is this is unnecessarily complicated and information is difficult to access. We don't have enough things to do because regions are dominated by the same political party over and over, and because aside from the Senate, there's nothing even remotely worth holding anyway.

When trying to recruit people to Atlasia, many of them have been hesitant to participate because they were afraid it would be too complicated & take up too much time.

I had the same concern (the former, anyway) when Xahar recruited me. I must have asked him two dozen questions. Tongue

NC Yankee also asked me tons of questions. My home computer was broken at the time though, so I linked him to the wiki. Despite the difficulty of dealing with the wiki, he's now decently active in Atlasia.

It just goes to show that you can quickly become a productive member of Atlasia if you are willing to put in the effort. Most people aren't willing to or don't have the time, though.

Someone (it might have been you, I don't remember) suggested hitting the reset button on Atlasia, & I would be inclined to agree. People might feel better about putting the time in if they don't feel like they're joining midstream.

If I am considered a productive member of Atlasia then this place is in serious trouble. All I have done is vote 3 times one of which got thrown out because I waited too long to respond to Pit's PM's about getting involved here. Oh and that worthless poll I am doing for the Pacific Senate race of which so far only 2 people have voted in it, the candidates.

1. I still don't know what I am doing.
2. The only part of the wiki I could "get into" was the previous election results pages.(probably cause thats my specialty in real life, spending hours on wikipedia looking up Senate results from 1946) and even thats not up to date.
3. I am board as hell.

I just thought that I should speak up and respond to what Pit said. My case is more an illustration of what is wrong here then an exception to the games problems.

Well thank you. If stays this way you guys might just win both the poll and the race cause the rest of the JCP is either MIA or maybe even KIA. For example has Meeker showed up to handle his duties in the Senate or is he now hiding from the PPT? Wink

That highlights another problem, that being the lack of anything for non-officeholders to do. It makes it harder to maintain interesting elections since people are not inclined to hang around long enough to actually run for office.

Well what can be done PiT? We might as well admit it. The RPP has the Dirty South in its pocket. Why don't we use it as a tool to experiment with possible solutions, instead of letting the current officersholders, no disrespect to Duke, Dan Adams, Slumber in ther plush offices doing nothing.

I don't think any of the region's elected officials intend to hold their seats forever.

I do think it is a good idea, though. I'll have to ask Duke to organize a convention to get the citizenry of the Dirty South more involved in its operations.

I didn't mean that Duke or Dan were in need of replacing for the sake of turnover. I meant they need to get active again so we can do something about the problem. Without them we are powerless to change anything in our region and thus anything in our nation. If Duke wants to run for President soon wouldn't it be wise for him to run on a campaign of having reformed a region or on a platform of inactivity and status quo.

Yeah, we should have a regional convention to talk about these things, though. It would be nice to be able to involve the citizens in what's going on.

Yes it would be. Currently the Dirty South uses an iniative based system. The problem is the only iniatives we get are trash iniatives that do little to fix the problems with the game and they are few and far between. In my digging I found in November or October DWTL suggested that we should have an Assembly. What prevents us from having one? Can't we just amend the constitution or something? If one were to be created I would run for one of its seats. So I don't buy this crap about more offices generating boring elections. Nothing can be more boring then what we got now. An Assembly might also bring the SDP back into the Dirty South. It wasn't that long ago they came within a hairs breath of winning the Governorship and won the Lt. Governorship, Granted the SDP candidate for Governor turned out to be a fraud. More offices would generate activity by bringing more people into the process.

I'm sorry I haven't been active enough recently in this game, but calling for our heads isn't going to solve everything.

I'll cut you some slack, Mr. NC Yank, because you are relatively new here. When the RPP, myself, DWTL and PiT took over, our region was dead. We had 1 person vote in our June elections. We did some unorthodox things, and we had a mini-revival in Atlasia over the summer. That lead to the SDP/RPP feud (mainly fueled by Xahar and others), the succession crisis which created opposition, and a very competitive election. I entered Atlasia to create some action. I did that. It was met with a lot of opposition, but it did fulfill my mission of generating some action. People have to learn that most people here don't care about silly make believe bills and crap like that. They want to see fun elections and wild speeches. The problem is the old guard wants to keep things the way they are and any attempt at change causes uproar. Now look where Atlasia is. No one really cares to do it. Soon, two of the most distinguished members in DWTL and Torie will be retiring from the senate.1 Where do we go from there? Attacking me, one who turned around a region and helped drive the activity from July - November is really silly, my friend. I admit I haven't been as active, but come on. Do you have any idea how horrible things were before I arrived?

Unfortunately, these things don't last forever. Many of us are in school and have many activities that take up our time. I'm in college at Wake and DWTL is in his last semester in high school. When there isn't much going on here, it is tough to remember to check this forum. When the bums were thrown out in December, this place did shut down. Perhaps when summer rolls around and I have more free time, I'll try to do some more things to generate action.

Andrew had a chance to really shake things up and bring in a whole new group of people, and what did he do? He chose a former President and Senator to be his VP rather than new blood. You're right. We keep having the same people run for these offices and the variety of candidates are dropping. Our choices in the next election seem to be between bgwah and another afleitch administration with Andrew heading it up. Where is the excitement in that? Count me as unenthusiastic. I agree with your premise, but there isn't much one person can do about it. I was lucky that SPC and DWTL were there early to go in with me to shake things up.

I didn't call for you head, Duke. PiT misinterpreted what I said. I said that since RPP has a lot of strength in the Dirty South we should use it to test various solutions to problem. The RPP stands for regional power, right? Well what better way to advance that then to have solutions to the games problems come from the regional level. I would love to know how I called for your head when just one post later I was coming up with a ways to help you, should run for President in the next election.

I know your busy as hell, I am High School Junior and thanks to this state's stupid ideas I am going to have start there stupid Graduation project soon.

If anything I was just a little disappointed and felt the RPP was missing a golden opportunity, but calling for your head, absolutely not, my friend. I voted to reelect you and would gladly do so again. I know what you did this past summer at least as far back as July. My statement may not have been very respectfull or accurate but it was meant that way to attract attention. Something has to be done to fix this game and soon.

1When did DWTL decide to retire? thats definately going to be big loss. The National Senate seats are up in April? or March?

    They're up in April.

Also, one big issue I've noticed is that the Southeast is too young. I mean, you're a high school junior, DWTL & I are high school seniors, Duke & BK are in college. It seems everyone except Brandon & Dibble is still in school, which makes coordinating things hard since we don't have as much time as we might like. The Secession Crisis worked largely because it took place over the summer, when we had more free time to plan these sorts of things.

Well that explains a lot. For some reason I assumed everyone on this forum was much older. Thats why at first I didn't disclose my age. Then with the Xahar and Ben thing in December I actually looked at some of forum members ages and realised that they weren't.

NC Yank, no worries. I misinterpreted what you were saying about needing to change things around. If you or anyone else wants to run for governor under the RPP banner, I will gladly retire. I do want to run for President at some point, maybe even this cycle. Who knows.

We are a young region and that's why we have our ups and downs. I do what I can, but as others have said, when activity in Atlasia is low like it is now, it's hard to cause any activity without upsetting the old timers who are interested in the other aspects of this game. We can do it, as we showed over the summer. We will again, but it might take time. The fact that you want things to start happening is a good step. We need more people interested like you.

I am absolutely un-qualified to be Governor right now. I would prefer to start out low and work my way up. Trouble is that in the Dirty South there are no lower positions. I think it would be wise for you to wait till the next cycle to run for President. Check the Candidate declaration thread and you will see that you running this cycle would be unwise. I am pretty certain that recent events have made Bgwah's relection less likely do to a recent declaration.

There's Lt. Governor. If Duke runs for President, there's always the option of Daniel Adams running for a promotion to Governor & you running for his current office.

I think a regional assembly would be a great idea though. People outside of the RPP would be able to hold some kind of office within the region.

Yes I know about Dan. I wouldn't even want to run for Lt. Gov right now. If there was an Assembly I would run for that and then maybe maybe run for Speaker.
