Nay FTR

If you are going to establish such a high threshold, then you might as well not have it.

Was this finished by the way? I meant to ask that last night but I somehow forgot to check this thread.

So it would apply to only the President/Vice President and regional Senators? There's an equity issue here - if one class of Senators is to be held to this account and not the other? or is it only the President and and Vice President... if that's the case, then it should be made clear.

I sympathize with the concern, but the problem here is with the At-Large seats and the way they are elected. Deus, Libertas (back in the day), JCL represented chunks of the electorate and the popular election method that is at least somewhat proportional would provide someone to represent but at the same time, the majority would be hostile to said representation. Therefore there is at the same time the unfairness of treating one class different from other, there is also the problem that it cannot be fairly implemented without risking unfair treatment of this group by denying them an access the present voting system allots.

One should also remember that the two Senate clases are meant to serve as substitutes for a bicameral legislature and thus not only vast differences in constituency size between the two but also other differences are to be expected. A recall works well in a regional election, how do you recall someone who represents 20% of the electorate. By definition, the ideologues are always disasdvantaged be they left or right, but most of all the right in this situation.

Aye

Though that is not say that I do not have concerns, particularly with the Midwest being kept in mind (though I must admit I did not follow that quite as closely as most were thanks to the heavy work load over the holidays and so forth).

I think it illustrates the difficulty with controversial players mentioned in reference to the At-Large seats. Regions are not unaffected by this, but ultimately if indeed the process is driver by outsider then one would hope that upon the vote the results would reflect the true desires of the region in question. That said obviously, the distraction can be a negative.

That said, the importance of the potential motivation for competence and activity has landed me on the side of voting aye if for no other reason then to not be deciding vote against this measure even if I do have some concerns, I sympathize with the overarching objective.
