May I ask what you find objectionable about it? I wanted an open discussion on the matter so please voice your opinions in detail. Smiley

I was trying to encompass obligations on matters like mental health, healthcare for the poor and such that pure market doesn't address. I discussed part of it with TJ back in May and he warned agaisnt the wording potentially being construed as to endorse freakonomics or whatever that is called.

Do you have any recommendations for a superior wording?

Can you guys endorse the book Freakonomics? It's a really good book. Don't see how its relevant to ya'll, but good book nonetheless.

What is that, what even is that?

I know next to nothing about it. TJ warned that use of the words "societal ills" following market solutions as potentially being an endorsement for using it in some rather weird places.

We encourage all members of the Party to remain well read and whilst I don't think we will be holding a vote to endorse anyone book in particular, I urge the members to consider it reading.

Of course I also urge people to read the Communist Manifesto, if for no other reason then to know what they are arguing against.

This next vote I hope will be the last one on the mission/introductory statement text. So if you have any recommended changes, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Wouldn't societal ills cover income inequalities, I mean from a redundancy/concission point of view?

I was hoping it would be a final vote, but allowed myself flexibility enough for it to not be so if need be. Wink

I wish I hadn't gone 72 hours on this vote.

Anyway we need a change in tactics as well as greater participation if we are to finish this by August. This is your party too after all. Tongue

Okay that vote clearlyed failed (more ways then one).

I am going to treat the past several votes as amendment votes on the text adopted in the first vote that we had.

JoMCar, do you wish to offer that text as an amendment?

I want to establish a date certain to cut this off and move to the rest of the platform, but I worry that people won't notice it and then come in here last minute with more concerns. Tongue

Scott is that an amendment to the body of the platform? God I hope so, we have been stuck on the introductory statement for a long time. Tongue

We haven't really done any other issue that sort of justice.

Well if we are going to change that, the only way is one issue at a time. Tongue

It appears that 24 is too short and 72 is too long obviously.

The previous vote is long past time, and I try get back on later tonight to close it. Next we will vote on the amendment proposed by our distinguished Emperor of the Imperial Dominion of the South. Unfortunately, I have to get off prematurely then that I expected and therefore, as much as I hate delaying this further.

The last amendmented has been adopted by a margin of 7-2, I think.

I am worried that such overlaps with the present wording of the Foreign Policy section to deem it a near total replacement. Such was not the case with the previous amendments that just added new planks on previously unaddressed issues.

I would recommend revising the amendment or turning into a full replacement for the section.

Could you use some bolding to highlight the changes from the old text?
