The sponsor has 24 hours to begin advocating for this.

The definition of "rational" sure has changed. Tongue

A motion to table the "Rational Education Act of 2013" has been filed by Senator Maxwell and seconded by Senator Spiral. A vote is thus open on the question of whether or not to table said legislation and remove it from the floor.

Senators, please vote Aye, Nay or Abstain. This will will last forty eight hours and require 2/3rds of those voting to vote in favor to be passed.

I was an unsuccessfully home schooled student for two years before being placed in a public school by my parents. I must say that I found presence in a public school to be little more effective at socializing myself then remaining at home. I spurned any kind of involvement just to maximize my time away from the place and increase the time I was home. At the same time, I found that was more effective at teaching myself history than any school and from middle school one, I found myself having to cringe as teacher's botched historical events. I found myself constantly harrassed and tormented by administrators who needed to dictate how I dressed and what I ate when, in order to feel good about themselves. Little wonder I just wanted to be away from that place.

From my own experience, I know that homeschooling can thus succeed as much as it can fail. But, I also know that public school can succeed as much as it can fail. The public school has just as much power to isolate and to scar mentally and emotionally a child as an overproductive or even abusive parent can. Both methods can fail, but at least can can provide an alternative to other and I would rather that second chance at learning be available then to condemn them to a lifetime of ignorance just so some statist can feel better about themselves by exerting control over the destructive element themselves.

You set standards, you regulate and practice careful oversight. If a bad situation is happening you can act accordingly.

I would prefer to let the region's handle regulation of this matter. I am going to be increasing the frequency of my interaction with the Emperor of the IDS, including hopefully some kind of weekly interaction at minimum. I shall be recommending that he review the appropriate statutes and acting accordingly. If a region were to ban this, I would disagree with it, but it is their perogative to do so.

I don't see any need or practical use for Federal legislation on this matter.

Motion to table, there are no circumstances under which I can support this bill.
A motion already failed by Senators who wanted to "compromise", but have yet to make any suggestions. Sad

But there might be enough votes now.  You, me, Yankee, Spiral, Goldwater, and presumably Shua would surely be enough.

It requires two thirds of those voting to table a bill. If all Senators vote that is seven.

The VP may open a final vote at any point that debate on the merits of the bill has been ceased for 24 hours or longer.

Status: Objection Filed by Senators NC Yankee (if someone else also did so and I missed it, please say so, I just filed one to ensure it didn't get forgotten and thus the amendment allowed to pass). NAY but with reluctance

I do like the standards that have been added here in place of the original text, but I would have preferred to work with the Regions and have them take care of this matter.

Anyway, this has enough votes to pass. Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.
