I think early voting opened up a couple weeks ago and ended last weekend

This race seems to be gaining traction among the resist lib crowd, so I'm expecting a competitive race

Oh, I'm shocked no one has done any updates. I saw GeorgiaVotes is back - is this data for the SC race? (are there other things on the ballot on 5/21 or just this race?)

I mean it's a non partisan race and the last time a GA supreme court incumbent lost was in the 1800s I believe. Not to mention Barrow is running a pro abortion campaign but was one of the most pro life Dems when he served in Congress.

There is no way Pinson is doing better in deep blue Douglas county than the rurals up north.

Hm, Barrow seems to be holding his own (so far) in some of the rurals. Definitly doesn't look like a total blowout

He's holding up really well in Trump counties but doing poorly in Biden ones its bizarre.

Could it be possible barrow is doing well in the rural east because he represented it in congress?

He is still holding up fairly well in rurals around the state. It's the Atlanta metro area where he is getting destroyed unironically.

Even Cherokee is decent for Burrow. It's Fulton and the deep blue core metro counties and inner ring suburbs that are going to cost him this race. Weirdest special election I've seen.

What are the odds that black voters are powering Pinson's win? This explains why the inner ring of Atlanta is so bad for Barrow. Perhaps many of them are pro-life and this gives them the opportunity to express that viewpoint without voting for a Republican.

Nah, I’d think pro-life black voters are more likely to live in rural areas as opposed to the metro.

You are seeing it in the rurals though. There is a number of Biden black belt counties going for Pinson right now.

My thoughts: uncontroversial incumbents almost always do well.  The incumbent tag powered Pinson, but this was mitigated by Barrow's higher name recognition in the areas he used to represent.

Do you know why Barrow chose to run against Pinson? There were three other justices seeking re-election today as well who were left uncontested.

Easy to blame GA dems for not investing in a court race like the WI dems did. The enourmous difference between the race was that WI mattered very much. While Barrow winning would get you nothing beyong bragging rights.
Dems winning in WI got them new legislative maps and a slew of other favorable rulings. Investing tens of millions for Barrow would be a waste of money.

Barrow alone no, but they let 3 other judges walk away uncontested. Had Dems somehow swept tonight in every SC race they would only be a knifes edge away from the majority.

This election means close to nothing but if Barrow pulled off the win you wouldn't hear the end of it on here and how Trump is doomed in Georgia.

Anyway Barrow overperformed literally everywhere statewide except the black belt and inner ring Atlanta either a large amount of black voters stayed home or voted Pinson.
