I'm generally not fond of this kind of regulation—I don't believe there are any safety concerns about genetically modified food, and I fear the implementation of a labeling system (suggesting that there is some reason to be concerned) may lead to delays in the implementation of a technology that has the potential to significantly and positively affect our society.

     Agreed. GMO is a large umbrella, including many modifications of unknown or neutral health impact. I don't see a compelling reason to require labeling products as such, especially considering that quite a few products are voluntarily labeled "GMO-free" already for people who are interested in buying such things.
