January 16th-18th, 1998: A new coalition of nations that was formed by President Nunn in the wake of the threat that Iraq may pose, would begin the Second Gulf War with Operation: Desert Rain. The "Powell Doctrine" and a copy of the "Powell Plan" that would be used by Central Command leader Anthony Zinni would ferment a leading plan to face Iraq. The first engagements would be extensive bombing campaigns into the Iraqi nation. During the air strike, a number of coalition fighters were shot down by Iraqi radar guided missiles.

January 20th-21st, 1998: In the United States a circus is emergence as Attorney General Bill Clinton of Arkansas has mistresses Paula Jones and Monica Lewinsky come forward and say that they had sexual intercourse with the Attorney General. Secretary Clinton would deny this saying "I did not do it..." flatly to reporters.

January 21st, 1998: The majority of the coalition ground forces would begin to roll into southern Iraq and easily make pace and set up a main base of activities in the southern portion of the Iraqi nation. General Anthony Zinni would declare that "We have drawn a line in the sand, not let's move forward..".

January 22nd, 1998: President Nunn and Defense Secretary Bob Kerrey would issue that any remaining EF-111 Raven's must come out of retirement to defend Coalition air forces.

January 23rd, 1998: Coalition, mainly US and British strategic bombers would rain down destruction upon major infrastructure areas in the central and the remaining southern portions of Iraq still under the control of the Republican Guard. This supoperation would be called "Desert Fox" after German field marshal Erwin Rommel.

January 24th, 1998: The Clinton Scandal continues as Bill Clinton's wife Hillary goes onto the Today Show and say "The right wingers have always been after my husband".

January 29th, 1998: Republicans in Congress bring up impeachment charges against Attorney General Bill Clinton on the basic of his "womanizing" though Democrats said that wasn't enough, Republicans had a semi majority but it would be left to the Reform Coalition members in Congress to decide to bring impeachment against Clinton.

February 4th, 1998: Enough Coalitionists (Reform Coalition members) support to have impeachment hearings and ultimately a vote on to remove Clinton from office, this would have some backlash on the Nunn Administration as Nunn's approval ratings were in the mid to high 70's and would take a small dive, about 2 points because of the "Clinton Circus".

February 6th, 1998: Coalition forces begins to found the "Free Iraq" or a transition nation-state in the liberated areas of the country from the Hussein Regime. This would gain cheers internationally and in Iraq but would have many Iraqi's weary of the international sway that foreign powers had on this "Free Iraq".

February 9th, 1998: The first days of the impeachment hears for Attorney General Bill Clinton begin as Monica Lewinsky would go onto morning shows and would "regail" as some called it about her involvement with the cabinet member. Many pundits would call Clinton "damaged goods" as his talks about maybe running for President in possibly 2004 would crumble for the time being.

February 7th-22nd, 1998: The 1998 Olympic Winter Games would commence in Salt Lake City, Utah. Both the Mayor of SLC Deedee Corradini and Utah Governor Michael Leavitt. Another guest would be Massachusetts Senator Mitt Romney, who would gain some interest and some of the spotlight for a short while on the national stage.

February 10th-12th, 1998: After pressure from the impeachment and from many people calling for Clinton to resign. Bill Clinton would sadly step down as Attorney General. Finally the "Clinton Circus" was over as the blight on the Nunn Administration began to dissipate for now. Congressman would then begin to call for a "truth mission" with a number of President Nunn's cabinet members. Although with some objections, the "search" of sorts would begin.

March 11th, 1998: The Danish Parliamentary election of 1998 would spell the election of a new government, one that would be of a center-right stance and would have Uffe Ellemann-Jensen become Prime Minister.

March 16th, 1998: Defense Secretary Bob Kerrey would have investigations placed against him after surprisingly his past came to haunt him. What became known as the Thang Phong Massacre would be brought up as Congressman would bring up this memory after there "truth mission" for President Nunn's cabinet members.

March 18th, 1998: Defense Secretary Kerrey would say in a White House conference that " You can never, can never get away from it. It darkens your day. I thought dying for your country was the worst thing that could happen to you, and I don't think it is. I think killing for your country can be a lot worse". This would ultimately save any possible major charges for impeachment against Kerrey.

April 4th, 1998: A group of coalition soldiers would "stumble" onto small bases that would contain numerous chemical bombs. The US and the coalition forces would quickly take these into custody.

May 23rd, 1998: The "Zinni Plan" would continue to prove it's effectiveness as coalition forces continue there march through the Iraqi nation. The regime leader Saddam Hussein would continue to spout that he would never give up to the "American hellions".

June 4th, 1998: President Nunn would object to some government officials calling for a strong "De-Baathification" on Iraqi civil services. Nunn would say that this Baathification was to extreme and would cut a large amount of the Iraqi civil service and could drastically hurt the chances of setting up a democracy in Iraq.

June 19th-21st, 1998: Coalition forces would arrive finally at the capitol of Baghdad. There would be a drawn out battle to the city and in the city. As the major fighting died for a short time, an US reporter would catch the US soldiers raising the United Nations  and American flags. A boost to President Nunn's ratings would soon follow.

August 7th, 1998: Bombings occur on the United States embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. This attack would kill over 200 and injure over 4,500. These terrible attacks would soon be linked to the Saudi Arabian exile, a man called Osama bin Laden.

August 20th, 1998: The United States military forces would launch cruise missile attacks against the Al-Qaeda terrorist network in Afghanistan. Suspected chemical plants in Sudan would also be hit by the cruise missiles in this counter strike.

So was the coalition expanded into Afgahnistan, or was that a sole American operation? Also I assume Saddam will eventually be captured and tried for war crimes. After the successful operation, I assume that Nunn's approval ratings will remain pretty high as well as the economy should be faring simmilar to that of OTL, so it will be interesting to see how the GOP and the Reform coalition parties run against such a popular president

The bombings into Afghanistan were just mainly solo as in OTL but Nunn got some flack by some of the Coalition nations but nothing that effects the Second Gulf War. The economy is virtually the same and I'm still pondering who the Republicans and Reformers will nominate come 2000. Thanks for also reading my TL and I hope you continue to enjoy it. Smiley

September 26th, 1998: President Nunn and many other politicians and military leaders would echo the same tune, "The major front of this war is coming to a close, now we must rebuild..." would sum up the Second Gulf War as rebuilding would become more of an objective and the capture and eventual trial of Saddam Hussein.

October 7th, 1998: The Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension or the "Mickey Mouse Act" beat down in Congress after Reformers and Republicans said it "Wasn't adequate" as a bill.

October 9th-13th, 1998: Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien would be shot as he was leaving a conference upon Quebecois-Canadian relations. This attach would be linked to several extremely radical cells of the otherwise more peaceful organization "All Of Quebec" or AOQ. This would cause a backlash at the AOQ as Quebecois and Canadians would unite against the organization. Prime Minister Chretien would be only grazed and would survive.

November 3rd, 1998: Congressional/Gubernational Elections - Separate post for this

November 20th-21st, 1998: An Taliban court in Afghanistan declares accused terrorist Osama Bin Laden that he is "A man without sin.." upon regards to the bombings on the US embassies in Kenya and Sudan. President Nunn would say to "keep an eye" on Bin Laden.

November 30th, 1998: The Quebec Republic General Elections would be held as incumbent President Jacques Parizeau would be elected to fulfill a full term of office in his own right quite easily. Only the Liberal Party and the Equality Party were the major competetors in the election and would loose by a fair margin.

December 3rd, 1998: The news that Saddam Hussein was captured was easily celebrated. The Nunn Administration was at an all time high in popularity and it seemed that the Second Gulf War was near the end. State Secretary Richard Holbrooke would say that "the wounds can now heal and Iraq can finally get it's full attention on rebuilding.

December 16th, 1998: "Grammites" as they where called, would call for the resignation of Newt Gingrich as Speaker of the House after their losses in the Congressional Elections of 1998. This would at first go unheeded as several Grammites would vie for Congressional power positions.

December 27th, 1998: Several Grammites would tackle Gingrich and would try and wrestle the Speakership from him. These attempts would ultimately fail but would galvanize certain factions in the Republican Party against Gingrich and the major supporters of the former Perot Administration.

January 8th-13th, 1999: Soon after the start of the 106th United States Congress, tension ran high among the Republicans and this reared it's head in a terrible way. An angry deranged man would assassinate Newt Gingrich in anger of him "being a traitor to the nation". The deranged man would quickly be locked away as the Congress was shooken and soon after Gingrich resigned from the Speakership to re-couperate but for the time being still be Congressman. Two failed assassination attempts would be a suprise, Chretein in Canada and now Gingrich in the US and this would show the growing radical factions in their nations.

January 19th-20th, 1999: After a long move to choose the new Speaker, Bob Livingston of Louisiana would be designated as the Speaker-Elect but sexual misconduct doomed this and Dick Armey of Texas would become the new Speaker and would say that "Union in are party is the only solution" in his short speech to Congress.

The PQ would have split following independence into a right-wing PQ and left-wing PQ.
Alright thanks, so what would Jacques Parizeau be allied with and what would be some of the possible candidates to run against him?

Layout of the Congressional Elections of 1998 and Other

House Layout

The House would have a continual growth of the Reform Coalition but it wouldn't be as big as many had thought as Democrats swept a number of races and took control of the Senate and was close to tacking the House as Reformers were the only thing hold the Republicans in a majority. This was seen as a coming end for Gingrich and the "Contract with America".

House:
Republicans: 203 (-8)
Democrats: 178 (+5)
Reform Coalition: 54 (+4)

Senate Layout

The Senate would go the Democrats as the Nunn Administration was high in popularity and this would rub off on Democrats and aid there Senatorial takeover. The only real lose came when Warren Beatty won a Senate Seat against incumbent Barbara Boxer as an Reform Coalitionist and in a suprise, Whip Harry Reid would loose his seat to John Ensign in an upset.

Senate:
Democrats: 53 (+4)
Republicans: 45 (-5)
Reform Coalition: 2 (+1)

Gubernational Layout

Several races would be close as the Reform Coalition put more of their funds into Gubernational races than anything else. The Reforms would see their national prospects grow as Rufus King was reelected as a Coalitionist in Maine, Jesse Ventura was elected with a little over 40% of the vote in Minnesota and Aaron Russo would be elected as an Republican-Reform Coalitionist in Nevada. Bob Bullock would loose his run for reelection against George W. Bush, former 1994 opponent as Reformer BJ Kennedy, the Reform Coalition state chairmen would run for Governor and take a little over 10% of the vote. Republicans would hold a majority of the Governorships after the 1998 Gubernational elections.

August 25th, 1999: President Samuel Nunn would announce that he would of course run for the nomination of the Democratic Party for reelection. There would be no true opposition candidates, only Lyndon LaRouche would be the other candidate and would make an easy cruise to renomination. Hmm...Forbes vs. Bush in the primaries should be pretty interesting. I think Ann Richards,Douglas Wilder or possibly one of the Kennedy kids would all be strong choices for Nunn's running mate, that's if he doesn't stick with Boren...Why didn't McCain or Liddy Dole jump into the race? Also why didn't Ron Paul run for the Texas Governership with the popularity of the Reform Coalition? and as always Keep it comming

McCain didn't run because of the popularity of Nunn as a Bush running still (Jeb), well his major campaign is to try and bring up the electoral vote in the 2000 election higher than their 3rd place finish in 1996 and 1992 and he was also pushed into running basically. For Elizabeth Dole, her husbands loss and coupled with Nunn's popularity made her shy away from a 2000 run, as did other strong candidates but there still is always 04. In 1997, Paul did switch to the Reform Coalition but he would say that he wanted to focus on the Congressional election of 1998 to hold onto his seat in an attempt to show that he could win as a reformer, this basically preoccupied Paul but a run for Governor in 2002 and for President in 2004 are also possibilities.

February 1st, 2000: In the New Hampshire Primary, Jeb Bush would pull out an easy double digit victory over Steve Forbes as Governor Spector would come in with nearly 15% of the vote. President Nunn would also easily win the primary with a huge landslide and Nunn would continue and win every single primary and caucus afterwards.

February 3rd, 2000: Gary Bauer would drop out of the Presidential race, sighting insufficient funds and support for his 2000 campaign. Bauer would then throw his support behind Jeb Bush for the nomination soon after.

February 8th, 2000: The Delaware Primary would be another victory for Forbes over Jeb Bush and it would be expected. Bush had put some money into the state only to bolster support as South Carolina and other primaries would be where Bushes war chest funds would be funneled at.

February 19th, 2000: South Carolina Primary would easily go to the more favored Jeb Bush. Pat Buchanan would have hoped to improve his numbers from 1996 but would only come in at third place and would say he was still running but funds and other things were lagging and many said that Buchanan's campaign was nearly dead.

February 22nd, 2000: Michigan and Arizona would hold there primaries and Bush would easily carry Michigan as Arizona was much more disputed. Bush had support from Hispanics, Conservatives and other minorities as Forbes had tried to stand on his victory in 1996 to win again in 2000. The votes were close but Bush won the Grand Canyon State and was crowned the frontrunner and gained much needed momentum.

February 29th, 2000: The Virginia and Washington primaries and the North Dakota caucus would be another major victory the Bush campaign as North Dakota, Virginia and Washington went to Bush and this slowed down Forbes support for the time being.

February 30th, 2000: Pat Buchanan would announce that he was suspending his campaign for the Republican Nomination and the 2000 Election. This suspension would be basically Buchanan's drop from the race that many had expected.

March 7th, 2000: Over a dozen primaries/caucuses would bring Super Tuesday to the Republican and Democratic candidates. (This will have it's own post)

March 10th, 2000: The Utah and Colorado would be blowouts for Jeb Bush as Bush came in with 60% in Colorado against Forbes 31%. Utah was a major loss to the Forbes camp as Keyes came in at second with 21% of the vote against Bush's 61%.

March 14th, 2000: The Florida Primary would be a cakewalk for both Jeb Bush and Sam Nunn as Nunn won with a huge landslide as Bush trounced his closest opponent Steve Forbes by a large gap of double digits.

March 18th, 2000: The Republic of China (Taiwan) Presidential Election of 2000 would have independent James Soong win in a close victory over Taipei Mayor and Democratic-Progressive candidate Chen Shui-bian. Kuomintang candidate Lien Chan would come in at a meager 3rd place with a little over 23% of the vote.

March 21st, 2000: The Illinois Primary would be Forbes last bet to reignite his campaign as he campaign furiously in the state. When the vote came it was better than some expected but Bush won over Forbes with 52% of the vote to Forbes 38% and Keyes 9%.

March 23rd, 2000: Steve Forbes would announce that he was dropping out of the race for the Republican nomination. Forbes would sight that the slowdown of wins in the primaries had crippled his campaign and said for the party to unite around Bush come November.

March 26th, 2000: Former Prime Minister and also former now acting President Vladimir Putin would be elected as Russia's President in there 2000 Presidential Election. Gennady Zyuganov of the Communists would only secure 30% of the vote against Putin would garnered 51% of the vote.

March 7th, 2000 Primaries (Republican and Democratic)

Republicans:

California: Both candidates dipped into there war chests to try and have the Golden State under there belt as a win. Bush led by a fair margin over Forbes all the way up to the 7th when Jeb Bush won the coveted primary.

Connecticut: Forbes had won the primary in 1996 and hoped to do so again. This came easily but Bush crept up on Forbes and garnered 44% of the vote against Forbes.

Georgia: A large victory came from the safe Bush Primary as Bush racked up numerous endorsements and Forbes did little to put money in the state as well.

Maine: Another state that Forbes won in 1996 would go once again to him but in a small margin over Jeb Bush. These results would become common for the remainder of the March 7th primaries/caucuses as Forbes would under preform through out the spectrum.

Maryland: Forbes would make an attempt at the state but Bush would easily fend these off as Alan Keyes would nearly take 10% of the vote in his homestate. Bush would win with a little over 50% of the vote.

Massachusetts: Bush truly didn't have much support in primary before the vote as Forbes had led from the time to the vote and easily kept Bush in second place and Forbes won with a little over 60%.

Missouri: Jeb Bush would lead with a large support over Forbes and would quash him in the primary as Bush picked up 60% of the vote.

New York: The major state that Forbes used as a base for his campaign and would have led over Bush for the most part until Bush chipped away at it but Forbes won, it was close but he won with 49% of the vote.

Ohio: Bush handled Forbes easily in the Buckeye State and won 55% of the vote.

Rhode Island: One of the more staunch Forbes states in the March 7th primaries/caucuses as it would vote for him 62% of the vote against Bush's 34%.

Vermont: Another staunch Forbes state but Bush put some funds into the state to help in his support to try and break the 40% barrier against Forbes. Forbes won with 59% of the vote against Bush's 38%.

Minnesota: Bush won the North Star State with 54% of the vote against Forbes with 29% of the vote as Keyes surprisingly came in at a strong third place finish.

Washington: Bush won the state handidly with 60% of the vote against Forbes 36% and Keyes 3%.

Democratic: President Sam Nunn would go on to win every primary by huge margins over the weak opposition candidates.

September 15th - October 1st, 2000: The 2000 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China would be a star studded event as the Olympics are both full of glamor and also outrage over the restrictions and the treatment of the Tibetan people. President Nunn would decide to boycott the opening ceremonies along with numerous other international leaders. There would be some attacks on Nunn by pro PRC Americans who would label Nunn "Taiwan-Sam" after his support of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

September 30th, 2000: An ad that would become infamous would gain national attention as the ad would have the money the Nunn campaign accepted from Atheist groups attacked because of this and would say "Sam Nunn.....Godless?..." at the end. This would send a firestorm of media attention over the ad ran by a conservative group. Links would be found to the Bush/Dole ticket soon after.

October 3rd, 2000: The first Presidential Debate would be held in Boston, Massachusetts and all three major candidates would attend. President Samuel Nunn of Georgia, Governor John E. "Jeb" Bush of Florida and Governor Jesse Ventura of Minnesota would make there case to the American people on mainly domestic issues as Bush and Ventura would shy away from Nunn's strong points in national security and international affairs. One of the higher points in the debate came when Bush would say "I believe Governor Ventura's radical solutions for domestics aren't anything the solutions the American people need...", Ventura countered and said "How is tax cuts for the rich going to solve everything?". The debate was bloody between Bush and Ventura as Nunn seemed to come off as above this and would win the debate easily.

October 5th, 2000: The three vice presidential candidates would convene at Center College in Danville, Kentucky to debate. The 90 minute debate would have each candidate tackle each other and the issues as Kennedy and Nader ganged up on Dole, Nader was called "an insane radical" as Dole nearly mouthed the words "Mr. Nader is a commu..." in the debate. Nader would actually play up his Energy Secretary position and call himself "A man of bipartisanship" as Kennedy would bat off the allegations from his personal life. The issues were varied as in one of the hugest upsets, Nader won the debate as Kennedy came in at second and Dole at a fair third.

October 9th, 2000: The USS The Sullivans would be attacked by an explosive laiden boat in port at Aden, Yemen. The attack would succeed and a dozen crewman would be killed in the attack and the attack would be traced back to the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. This would prompt President Nunn to put more money on observation of the terrorist group, especially trying to find the exact wereabouts of one of the leaders, Osama bin Laden.

October 11th, 2000: The second Presidential debate would convene in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and would have the three major candidates at an table with the moderator Jim Lehrer. Once again domestic issues were the center and would let the candidates delve into their plans and lay out there ideas to the American people on national television. The debate would not be as much of an battle royale between the candidates as the last presidential debate and would have Bush win the debate after many said he charmed a win from the people.

October 17th, 2000: The final Presidential debate would occur at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The town hall format would play to varying advantages for the three major candidates as the Reform Coalition has always scored big in the town hall format as Perot had done extremely well in the 92' and 96' debates and Ventura hoped to do the same as Bush would try and "Talk Compassion" to the American people as Nunn would play up the successes of his first term and would outline his plans for more domestic issues like health care reform and energy independence. Nunn won the debate by a close margin.

November 7th, 2000: The United States Presidential Election of 2000 would be held as President Nunn wold lead in polls but with facing two major opponents, it seemed that Nunn might not cross the needed 270 electoral votes. As polling came in it seemed that several states were close and could be the states to send the election to Congress. Ultimately Arizona was the closest as Nunn, Ventura and Bush vied for a victory there, the state bordering AZ, New Mexico would be close as well as Bush would come in at a strong second.

Samuel Nunn/Joseph P. Kennedy II: 271 EV 40% PV

John E. "Jeb" Bush/Elizabeth Dole: 163 EV 36% PV

Jesse Ventura/Ralph Nader: 104 EV 21% PV

Other (Green, Libertarian, etc): 0 EV 3% PV

-Congressional Election results will be posted seperatly.

November 27th, 2000: The Canadian Federal Election would be held as Jean Chretien of the Liberals would win easily as his party would gain an easy majority over the closest opponent, Stockwell Day and the Canadian Alliance. The standing would be 134 Liberals, 69 Canadian Alliance, 14 New Democrats and 11 Progressive Conservatives.

Layout of the Congressional Elections of 2000 and Other

House Layout

With the upswing in the support for President Nunn, the Democrats gained a fair margin of wins as an flood of other victories was held back by the second place finish of Jeb Bush and his support trickling down to local races. The Republicans would still hold the House but only by an smaller margin than 1998. One of the newcomers into the Reform Coalition Party ranks would be the suprise already incumbent Congressman Michael Forbes, who won the Republican nomination and then declared himself an independent and won the Reform Coalition nomination and the general election.

House:
Republicans: 191 (-12)
Democrats: 185 (+7)
Reform Coalition: 59 (+5)

Senate Layout

Democrats only increased there numbers in the Senate as the Republicans were "picked clean" as one senator said as the Democrats picked up 4 new seats as their victory had some negation as they lost an senate seat in Minnesota to Dean Barkley, an coalitionist and lost the race in Washington. Two of the new freshmen Democratic Senators would be John F. Kennedy Jr of New York and Brian Schweitzer of Montana.

Senate:
Democrats: 54 (+1)
Republicans: 43 (-2)
Reform Coalition: 3 (+1)

Other Layout

Gubernatorial races were the major races to watch as the Reform Coalition would pump most of their funds for Gubernatorial races into the Independent endorsed Mary Brown of New Hampshire and Anthony Pollina of the Progressive Alliance in Vermont as North Carolina Reform Coalition candidate Douglas Schell would gain a small part of the funds for his own gubernatorial race. It was an easy predictions as many races followed the pundits thoughts on who would win as only the Republicans candidates in Missouri and New Hampshire won their races in an upset.

April 1st, 2001: The "Hainan Island Incident" occurs as an Chinese fighter jet bumps into a U.S. EP-3E surveillance aircraft, which is forced to make an emergency landing in Hainan, China. The U.S. crew is detained for over two weeks and the F-8 Chinese pilot, Wang Wei, goes missing and is presumed dead. April 26th, 2001: Junichiro Koizumi would become officially the Prime Minister of Japan after the victories of the Liberal Democrats and their coalition in the June 2000 elections. Shortly after, President Nunn would meet with Prime Minister Koizumi to talk about trade.

May 10th, 2001: the EC Reform Amendment is ratified and becomes the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution. After passing through Congress and being ratified by enough states, President Sam Nunn would welcome this as a first step in major electoral college reforms.

June 3rd. 2001: President Nunn would have several small bills passed, these would include an small tax cut bill and also an bill that would give more money towards the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. These small and simple bills would improve on Nunn's approval as the newest polls showed him with 67% approval.

August 14th, 2001: The Constitution of the Confederation of Iraq is ratified in an special referendum vote. This would be monumental as it was the continual step of rebuilding and getting Iraq on it's feet so it can govern itself, soon elections would be set at the end of the year.

September 20th, 2001: The date would have been an normal day but the American people were rocked to their core by what transpired on 9/20. The beginning of this did not come from the United States but from the Republic of Quebec as reports came in that the major Quebec airline service, Quebecair had not been receiving anything from one of their flights. Quebecair were worried but didn't expect what was about to unfold as one of their Boeing 767 headed to New York City would continue on it's course. In the morning, reports came in that an Boeing 767 had crashed into one of the World Trade Center Towers and at first this was reported by many of the news networks as many people thought this was an accident. This proved not true as reports flooded in as that two small planes had crashed into the Pentagon, then came that a van of explosives was detonated in Chicago.

The attacks were over before the US Government could really do anything but President Nunn would go into high gear as he would call an unprecedented evacuation of all Congressman and others, as this occurred the South World Trade Center Tower would collapse and would cause massive damage as debris rained down and also struck and tore at the North Tower. Soon President Nunn met with some of his cabinet and the joint chief of staff in an safe location to learn anything about these attacks on American soil but they didn't have much and Nunn would be spirited off to ground zero. After flying over New York City, President Nunn would land and would and call on any to help in the rescue work, Nunn would then begin to actually help in the rescue himself until he was told that they had found out who was behind the attacks. Al-Qaeda was the one, the major leader being Osama bin Laden.

In a quickly thrown together Address to the Nation, President Nunn would vow that "We will not stop, we will not rest until every leader behind this heinous attack is brough to justice, if we must hunt them like wild animals we will do it...". These words echo the anger of the American people as Nunn's approval ratings go through the roof after the 9/20 attacks.

September 22nd, 2001: Operation "Hunt" would be drawn up as President Nunn would call Prime Minister Tony Blair and President Vladimir Putin in private calls to try and persuade them to give aid in the Operation: Hunt. Blair would say that he would to this as Putin would also give their support. Soon enough Nunn's personal calls and talks with international leaders won many nations over and joined the now international Operation: Hunt.

September 28th, 2001: Letters that either did or said they contained Anthrax would be mailed to several major media networks and Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and Senator Patrick Leahy. These attacks would prove to scare and kill as the nation was shaken by the 9/20 attacks, 10 reported deaths were caused by the "Amerithrax" attacks with one being Senator Patrick Leahy.

October 6th, 2001: After President Nunn's secretive tone after the 9/20 attack worried the American people, another address to the nation was held. President Nunn would basically talk to the American people about Operation: Hunt and would say that they have taken down a number of Al-Qaeda leaders but not Osama bin Laden. This national address was seen as risky by some Administration insiders but this help Nunn as he "went directly to the American people".

October 7th, 2001: President Nunn would speak to a joint session of Congress and would put forth a declaration of war against the Al-Qaeda sponsored Taliban Government. The declaration of war would pass and a "War" on Terrorism would begin.

February 17th, 2002: Energy Secretary Ralph Nader would get into a dispute over the Yucca Mountain in Nevada for a proposed site for the nuclear waste repository. Layout of the Congressional Elections of 2002 and Other

House Layout

President Nunn kept his popularity quite high. With the passage of a number of bills, some support shifted to the Democrats from the Reform Coalition's corner but in a strange balancing act, a number of Republican pick up's in the south brought some hope to regain the House someday for the Republicans. Also with the successes in Afghanistan, this bolstered Democrats nationally in numbers, in numbers enough to finally take the House of Representatives and implace Nancy Pelosi as the new Speaker of the House.

House:
Democrats: 195 (+10)
Republicans: 185 (-6)
Reform Coalition: 55 (-4)

Senate Layout

The Senate had a number of interesting campaigns and possible candidates. In the TX 2002 Senatorial Election, former President Ross Perot was mentioned as a big possible candidate in the election but would turn it down. Democrats kept the Senate but made no gains, the Republicans and Reform Coalitionists also didn't gain one seat. One of the freshly elected Senators to an already Republican seat would be former Republican VP nominee Elizabeth Dole.

Senate:
Democrats: 54 (-)
Republicans: 43 (-)
Reform Coalition: 3 (-)

Other Layout

Gubernatorial Elections were the other elections to watch, but for the most part it remained the same as the lines that separated the Democrats, Republicans and Reform Coalition would remain the same, mostly. The Reform Coalition became the big party in the news for a while as Representative Ron Paul was running under the Reform Coalition banner for the Texas Governorship and it was one of the closest races against incumbent Governor George W. Bush. Incumbent Governor Jesse Ventura would also run, this time for reelection and would win. Another major race would be the bloody California race against Governor Gray Davis and Republican Bill Simon, which Simon won with 42% of the vote.

Through this, Alexander remained above the fray in hopes of showing himself above partisanship. One quip backfired on Dole as she said to McCain "Senator, you can't lead!", in response McCain said "Well Senator, I have to say, you can't lead, If I'm not mistaken you've been in office less than two years..".
