Last night, I watched Interstella 5555, the anime adaptation of Daft Punk's Discovery album that they collaborated on with Leiji Matsumoto and Toei Studios. The whole movie is basically an extended concept video for the album and the story is told entirely through the songs and visuals, with no spoken dialogue.

I thought the movie was pretty fun and inventive and fit the music and lyrics well. I liked how Daft Punk and Matsumoto were able to convey so much about the characters, their conflicts, and the worlds they encounter with next to no diegetic explanations.

I've always been a fan of Matsumoto's visual style and storytelling (The Galaxy Railways is one of my favorite shows), so I enjoyed getting to see more of his work.
