Prior to 2008 Barack Obama, all prevailing Democrats carried the state of Missouri.

In 1992, Bill Clinton had a higher margin in Missouri than in the U.S. Popular Vote.

The opposite happened in 1996.

That helps to partly explain 1956 Missouri.
