Considering the best news sources in Australia, the ABC and SBS, are in large part government funded and have strong regulations surrounding independence and accountability and a long and proud history of upholding it, I (would have) vote(d, if i'd seen the thread) a strong yes. They also keep commercial media in check, so that Australia doesn't have the same ridiculous sensationalism of the US in our news media... at least not to nearly the same level.
