Preferential voting is sometimes called "Alternate voting' or "instant runnoff"

basically it means that a candidate must recieve a majority, not merely a purality, to win an election.

A voter marks their prefernces of the candidates, from 1-x, preferencing all candidates.

For example, I could vote:

1. Ms. Red
2. Mr. Green
3. Mr Yellow

Say there are those three candidates in the election, and eleven voters.

Mr. Green wins 4 votes (First Preferences)
Ms. Red wins 3 votes (FPs)
Mr. Yellow wins 4 votes (FPs)

the votes that Ms. Red won would be redistributed. 2 of them prefenenced Mr. Green, and one preferenced Mr. Yellow, so the new trally would be:

Mr. Green 6 votes (First and Second Preferences)
Mr. Yellow 5 votes (First and Second Preferences)

So Mr. Green would win, and recieve a majority of votes-therefore, the majority have selected the winner.

I think we need a new thread solely for senators to vote in.

Whilst I believe we ought to have a seprate thread, here are my votes:

Yes on the bill with the amendment.

No on the bill without the amendment.

Yes on the amendment.

Aye.

But it should be in a new thread, to avoid confusion.

so what now?

I say we create a "Gazette of Laws" in the constitution thread, but not on the actual constitution site. Create a new site especially for new laws Smiley
