Normally quiet and subdued kids with occasional outbursts of extreme anger are not in the least bit unusual.

Yes, he was in ROTC a few years after this happened.  What is your point?   He can't have had a violent temper because he had thick glasses?    Have you ever been around kids with behavioral problems?  They don't all fit stereotype.
