If Austria were somehow actually a state in the U.S., there's no way Obama would be winning with 80%+. I mean really, how many FPO voters would vote for Obama? He would probably win fairly comfortably, don't get me wrong, but the margins found in these polls only make sense if Austria is a foreign country.

Very true. Nationalism in its various forms is a crucial element of Republican support in the US. For other countries this American nationalism may cut against the native nationalism.

It would be really interesting to see how Austria would vote in a Presidential Election if it ever became a U.S. state. I have a hard time believing that Austria would be as Democratic as D.C. Tongue
Based on demographics alone, Austria should be Safe Republican. But then again, you can't compare white voters in Austria to white voters in the U.S...
Uh, by that logic Vermont, Maine, and Iowa are Republican locks.

If he means (gentile) German/Central European descent, he is generally correct - NE Iowa seems to be the main nonurban exception.
