depends on whether or not I could find a plausible "prior commitment."

No (I/R). I don't support needlessly antagonizing a country that has been mistreated to the point of war just because Israel has decided to become a little b*tch about everything and demands their way or the highway.

Israel has been creating more problems for us than solving them for the past 40 years. I actually do hope Obama fulfills conservative's fears and puts them in their place. There is no solid evidence that Iran is actually trying to build a nuclear weapon, and Israel has been claiming that "Iran is only a few months/years away from having one" for the past 20 years.

Israel has the right to exist, but not to fearmonger and ask us to be their lapdog for every war they want. I'm sick of all the Israel apologism for their destructive behavior.

"In their place"?  What place is that?

America sure as hell shouldn't be taking it's orders from Netanyahu, but if America was in their place don't tell me we wouldn't be doing the exact same thing as they are. Israel isn't stupid to be concerned about Iran even if their approach is counterproductive.

If America were facing a hostile power possibly gaining nuclear weapons a stone's throw away from us, there is no way we would hesitate to exploit political divisions in another country if it would help our perceived interest.

Except this possibility is very small, and arguing that they would obtain it requires you to delve into paranoia based on stretched evidence. There is still virtually no evidence Iran is trying to obtain a nuclear weapon outright, and even you admit Israel's tactics are counterproductive to the goal of preventing them from getting one in the first place.

On top of this, your argument of "well, if America was in this position, we'd do it too!" is stupid because 1.) we don't actually know that the US would recklessly torpedo a relationship with a crucial ally, 2.) the circumstances would be totally different, and most importantly 3.) it's not actually happening in reality, it's a theory created by your mind. What is happening is Israel's PM is lecturing us about how we should totally bend our foreign policy to their paranoid will so Netanyahu can win an election in two weeks.

Doesn't matter about what would happen in some alternate reality. Netanyahu is in the wrong here. End of story.

The point of this hypothetical is to demonstrate how meaningless the accusation that "Israel has decided to become a little b*tch about everything and demands their way or the highway" actually is. It's so easy to condemn another nation as distinctly awful if you aren't willing to imagine their situation.
