I'd vote against spending my tax dollars on fruit fly research.

Do you live in a fruit-growing area? Fruitfly can absolutely destroy an industry. The economies of Florida and California would be on the edge...

oh wait.

Well, they'd be over the edge.

I'd vote against spending my tax dollars on fruit fly research.

Umm fruit fly's are used to do genetic research, and in this case actually helped produce an enzyme that could help kids with autism . Yet Palin mocks this because she has no fukcing idea what she is talking about. I just absolutely hate this anti-intellectual schtick that she is doing. "Omgz fruit fly reasearch omgz i have no idea what I am talking about but omgz"

I'd vote against spending my tax dollars on fruit fly research.

Do you realize that a huge amount of the research into the human genome is only thanks to the fruit fly? Without research into the fruit fly's (or other similar critter to do research on) DNA we'd know at most a third of what we currently do about our own DNA.

Probably for the first time in my life, I wish I were an US citizen, just so I could vote against this stupid bitch.

But be cautious - as your intelligence level seems to be similar to Palin's, it might overstrain you.

The above quotes "bit" on my bait.

I am against funding fruit fly research because I believe such things are not an appropriate use of government funds.  Genetic research on drosophila is obviously important and valuable, but I don't agree with the government as a mechanism to perform or fund this research.

It's amusing how some folks here assume that if you're against government involvement, it must be because you simply don't understand the issue.

The above post would be more robust and provocative, if it made the case, that the population is getting too geriatric as it is, and using taxpayer money to expand  life spans en mass into the onanistic octogenarian realm, and beyond. can hardly be considered as a higher priority, than so many others, like figuring out how to get kids to have the opportunity to go to schools that are other than babysitting warehouses for punks.

I am not saying that I fully subscribe to the above, but what do you think?

My only point was that people are assuming a lot about "the other side" this election cycle.  I'm really annoyed beyond belief at all of this messianic BS, and the endless attempt to destroy anyone not on His side.

I could come up with about a thousand government programs more important than fruit fly research; though in my ideal world, there probably wouldn't be a thousand government programs.

You would have a point if she did this out of ideology. She apparently had no problem studying crabs and seals, but I guess fruit fly research crosses the line. Roll Eyes Also do you think she would ever ridicule government spending on studying lab rats, which is essentially what fruit flies are.

My point is not dependent on her.  She's certainly not the gold standard of intellectual sophistication, but I don't vote just to get the most intellectually sophisticated president I can find.

I'd comment here, but I ran out of fake outrage sometime around 2004.

LOL.
