Fun fact: If the polls were accurate in 1996, Clinton WOULD have swept the South as it was. He did about 8 points better in the final polls than he actually did. Would have resulted in this map if a universal swing is applied:



That kind of landslide was actually what a lot of people were expecting. This was in fact one of the biggest polling misses ever, but it didn't get that much attention because Clinton still won comfortably anyway.
