My friend's daughter has been placed in an all-black class, What should they do?

I like how the diatribe is all against blacks and their "culture", while you do not even mention how the school is performing. If it is comparable to other schools, moving her out of there would be nothing other than RACIST. Now if they want to escape the blackies just move out here to california, that is if they don't hate hispanics as well.

Never does he mention how the school is performing or whether the kid is getting harrassed by the other students. Nope, it is all about the race of the other students. I don't see why anyone should move just because all the students are black. I didn't complain when I had to be in an all-white classroom.

Is that not playing the race card just as much as any other group that is in the minority?  Why is it acceptable to think of the mental/physical well being of a black child over a child who would be in the minority in the class no matter what the ethnic background?  Why is someone a racist for pointing out that this is not in the child's best interest?  Is it because the child is white? Or is it because it is in a Southern State?   How many of us have been in this situation?

As has been mentioned in this thread before, my daughter has been in the same situation, it was not pretty, she was miserable, as were we, and I have not regretted the choice to move her to her current school.  Given the choice, I'd do it again.  I just wish her current school had opened earlier.  She is now interacting with a diverse spectrum of students, yet is not being held back due to issues that her other school had.

If a school is underperforming then as a parent you definitely have the right to move your child to a better school. But doing it just because the kids are black or hispanic is not a good enough reason. If don's relatives kid is in a suburban black school with middle income blacks, I do not see why the kid should be moved. But if its a ghetto ass school that regularly underperforms and has serious gang issues then yes the kid should be moved.

My advice to you is to consider what you would do if your child were zoned into the 'worst' school in Nashville/Davidson County and you were deined a request to move your child to another school.

So this school that your relative is going to, is it one of the worst in Memphis? Are you sure its not just middle class blacks?

So should this family wait three years (approximate amount of time it takes for the few middle class blacks there are to evacuate and follow the whites east) then leave?

So the school is getting pretty ghetto? I have noticed the best way to keep a school district at a good level is by making sure the community donates to the school( especially parents). I would think middle-class blacks would do that. But I guess middle class blacks also want to be where the money is and that is with white people. I guess she should be moved but the situation in the south seems kinda hopeless.

And lol to the New Yorkers and Jerseyites saying Don is a bigot for fearing for his friend's daughter's safety-educational attainment in an all-black public school in Memphis. Property values in NJ townships and Long Island actuallydepend on preventing black students from enrolling in any significant number in their public schools.

So why do they feel the need to prevent black students from going to their schools? Here in California I think family income matters much more than race as to how a school district will perform. Cities with high income don't have blacks because they don't earn as highly, but those who do live in these places are just the same as the whites and asians. They can afford to donate money to the school and make sure their kid gets any additional tutoring they require. I don't see why race should have anything to do with it unless you are trying to say blacks are dumb.
