2) No, I'm not "against" him because of this. I didn't bother to read the article but I gather that he put the host in his pocket during Communion. It's just a really stupid thing to do. The guy wasn't doing it to be a dick while others (like people in this thread who know better) would do it just to be disrespectful and piss people off. That being said, I would expect the guy to know better.

I read the article a few days ago, and am working off memory now, but if I remember correctly it didn't necessarily say that he pocketed it - just that he took the communion wafer, the tv camera hovered on him for a bit, he did nothing with the wafer, the tv camera moved onto the next person and there is no footage of Harper doing anything with it after that. Indeed, I think the article said that it's very possible he was assuming it would be like many protestant churches - where people often partake together. That's how it was in the church where I grew up, at least for the wine (well, technically grapejuice) - we ate the bread individually, but drank the wine collectively as one. It's even possible he was meditating on Christ's sacrifice before partaking, that's what I do - I take the bread and then think about what it means, and then put it in my mouth. It's possible that Harper did this and then placed it in his mouth after the tv camera wasn't focusing on him (not that he was considering the camera, but did it without realising that was going on).

Now I don't know if that's what he did or not because according to the article, PMO hasn't clarified. That is the bigger political issue, I think - that PMO hasn't clarified what Harper did. I would be very surprised if Harper would pocket communion - I can't see any reason why he would, but I mean, without clarification, I don't know what happened.

Yeah, here's the original article, from the link posted by BRTD. I'm going to bold the points to which I referred and underline the initial hypothesis made. I question where the journalist plucked this hypothesis as nothing in the rest of the article suggests this. Perhaps the footage shows him putting it in his jacket pocket, but if so it should have said as much, although the fact that the article acknowledges that he could have placed it in his mouth after being off-camera (second bolded section) suggests that there is no footage of him actually pocketing it.

Turns out the whole thing was a work of fiction:
