There is no way in the world car manufacturing workers in Detroit vote for Gore. Michigan will be a firm McCain win. Indeed, the threat of Gore's environment policy would deliver much of the rustbelt to McCain quite conveniently. Iowa would like Gore's ethanol/biodiesel position, so he'd pick up there and possibly Missouri in exchange for Michigan and Pennsylvania. So he'll gain 18 electoral votes in exchange for 38 - hardly a winning start to the campaign.
