As the newly elected President Pro Tempore of the Senate I humbly request that President of the Senate Smid defer daily operations of the Senate to the PPT Smiley Unless he would prefer an active role in Senate affairs; that's okay too.

As a person living on the far side of the world (that phrase always makes me think of Master and Commander), I am always pleased for the Presiding Officer of the various legislatures to take a more active role. That ensures that votes are opened and closed at times most suitable for the majority of participants. I try to keep informed of what is taking place in case I need to step in for casting votes, etc, but tend to take more of a laissez faire approach.

I was just thinking, we've had a Cabinet meeting but we haven't yet had Question Time/PMQ/Question Period (depending on whether you prefer the Australian, British or Canadian phrase).

Anyway, I know the UK election is on which is keeping us all busy watching, but I thought perhaps we should try getting this off the ground... perhaps after the mid-term elections?
