Russian annexation of Kherson: 30 September
Liberation of Kherson: 11 November
Number of days Kherson was illegally part of Russia: 42 days
Liz Truss premiership: 50 days

Russian Kherson failed to outlast one Truss.

Article 5 isn't happening, much as I'd like that. But the likelihood of Polish Migs being transferred to Ukraine just went up significantly.

In simple terms
Article 4: Inviting your friends to sit in your porch and stare daggers at your annoying neighbor.
Article 5: Inviting your friends to beat the crap out of your neighbor who is throwing rocks at your window.

In other news, the lame duck Congress will likely pass another Ukraine funding bill to fund the next year's fight. The $37 billion dollar number will probably go up.

The Turkish arms industry must be very pleased. They get a rare opportunity to test and market their products and earn praise for it.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/12/21/russia-nord-stream-explosions/

"No Conclusive Evidence Russia Is Behind Nord Stream Attack"

Quote
But now, after months of investigation, numerous officials privately say that Russia may not be to blame after all for the attack on the Nord Stream pipelines.
"There is no evidence at this point that Russia was behind the sabotage," said one European official, echoing the assessment of 23 diplomatic and intelligence officials in nine countries interviewed in recent weeks.
Some went so far as to say they didn't think Russia was responsible. Others who still consider Russia a prime suspect said positively attributing the attack — to any country — may be impossible.

I wonder who could it be then ?

This map of Russian advance towards Bakhmut could almost be taken out of a WWI history book.

The official death toll from the New Years Day missile strike has gone up to 89, although this is likely just the bodies they can identify immediately.

US intelligence believes that the numbers are higher. Either way, you can scratch one battalion from the Russian order of battle.

Spare a thought for Ukrainian field engineers who will have to maintain 10000 different types of fighting vehicles.

Paging TiltsAreUnderrated: Do you know what the Zuni rockets are for?

There are unguided and guided variants. They are used in helicopters and, apparently, jets (including F/A-18s). Ukraine has a few European-produced helicopters but I guess they could attach/adapt the relevant rocket pods for their Soviet choppers and planes. They don't seem to have a shortage of unguided aircraft rockets, so I suspect they're getting the guided ones.

Apparently the guided variant is similar to APKWS, or so says Wikipedia. Ukraine already uses these and has ground launchers for them. It has (or will have) APKWS configured for air defence. There was some speculation APKWS could also be used to equip its Bayraktars, but I've not seen anything concrete there.

Knowing Ukrainians they might just weld the rocket pod on top of a Humvee and use it as an ersatz grad.

I also just saw a UA-posted video of them loading dozens of bodies into trucks in Bakhmut & Soledar, so this doesn't surprise me.

But what I don't get is...

How did Prigozhin, with a ragtag group of cons, manage to do this to a group of well-trained, motivated & NATO-equipped professional soldiers?

I think this picture offers a hint as to why. Wagner are known to be masters of deception and tricks.

I do believe that Ukraine has made the mistake of overcommiting their forces in Bakhmut. The Svatove offensive has stalled as a result despite being more strategically significant than Bakhmut.

IMO western tanks will definitely be sent to Ukraine. It's just a question of when and how many you can squeeze out of the SPD.

Just when you think Russians couldn't stoop lower, they allow a serial rapist and killer to pitch himself to Wagner.

A couple weeks ago I was in Bali for the New Years and a friend's wedding. It was chock full of the most entitled, intolerant and obnoxious Russians. Can't imagine how unbearable it will get when the second wave of mobilization is announced. A local friend told me that there was already a few accidents where unlicensed Russian drivers crashed their vehicles.

I am not certain how significant this news is, but I thought I'd share it anyway:

Kissinger Sheds Resistance to Ukraine Joining NATO

There is only one news for Kissinger we are all waiting to hear.

No GLSDB in the latest package sadly due to some technical issues.
