"It means more people covered than are covered right now and at an average cost that is less, and I believe we can firmly do that with the plan that we laid out there."

- HHS Secretary Tom Price when asked on NBC's "Meet The Press" how he would define a successful AHCA, 03/12/17

Donald Trump will undoubtedly make the claim soon that CBO Director Keith Hall was "appointed by Obama", despite the fact that the Director of the CBO is appointed by the Speaker of the House (in this case, John Boehner), despite the fact that Hall was also appointed Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics by George W. Bush, and despite the fact that Hall served on the White House Council of Economic Advisers during the Bush 43 administration.

It won't matter how close his ties to the Republican Party were in the past, he has now proven his disloyalty to the Trumpster.

Sen. Bill Cassidy:

"That's not what President Trump promised."

"You have to have an umpire, even if the umpire occasionally gets it wrong, because otherwise you are only accepting analysis by people with motivations define certain answers, and so I am very reluctant to disregard what the CBO score is."

A refreshingly honest assessment from a GOPer.

How ironic, Trump's base undoubtedly celebrates the watered down and temporary (and therefore worthless) reinstatement of the Muslim ban, while at the same time the Republicans work around the clock to get the necessary votes to strip them of their health coverage.

To kill that bill would mean admitting that the Emperor has no clothes. Therefore they can't.

Jennifer Epstein @jeneps
Sen. Cassidy on the CBO score's effect on his vote, on CNN: "It certainly makes me more concerned. It makes me want to explore this more."

Look, Bill Cassidy wants to embark on an exploration!! He apparently thinks he's the Christopher Columbus of the 21st century! Get him on the f**king Santa Marķa. Let's see what he finds out while being in the Bermuda Triangle!!

If Congress passes a repeal-and-replace-later bill will Trump finally drop below a 35% approval rating for the first time ever?

What we need now is a president who's a dealmaker.

Trump voters: 25/16/59
Clinton voters: 0/75/26  (yes, that's a zero)

And the majority of Trump voters is totally clueless... well, not exactly clueless. Deep down they know it's a bad bill, but they won't say so because their Leader supports it. Hence they have "no opinion". Those sheep.

Understand why I dislike McCain now? He played you guys like a fiddle.

None of us expected McCain to vote no.
I did. McCain always makes himself the swing vote.

Then you were probably the only one.

The GOP just needs to dissolve itself. There's just no point to it anymore.

He probably figured that he won't be a senator for that much longer, so it's better to go out with a bang.

Welp we knew Trump would get lash out at something so he is now ranting on Twitter on getting rid of 60 votes and just going to 51

As if this would have made any difference yesterday...

Trump now seems to be switching back and forth between "let Obamacare implode and then make a deal, like I have argued since the beginning" (the latter of which is a lie) and "abolish the filibuster and hold another vote on repeal and replace now".

So, he doesn't really have a strategy then, huh?

Vox has an interesting article on shifting American attitudes on the government and health care.  Using data from Gallup and Pew polls, they found a huge swing in just the last four years.  On the question of  whether it's the federal government's responsibility to ensure that all Americans have health coverage, the results were:

2013: 42/56 (-14)
2014: 47/50 (-3)
2015: 51/47 (+4)
2016: 51/46 (+5)
2017: 60/39 (+21)

That's a net change of +16 in the last year, and an astonishing +35 over four years.

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/8/16/16158918/voxcare-poll-government-run-health-care

People tend to support the status quo and oppose changing things. Obamacare is now the status quo, but it didn't used to be a couple of years ago.
