As a "mostly non-active active participant" of the Fantasy Elections, I have to mention that I was contacted by Senate candidates Akno21 (per private message) and Bono (per AIM) recently and was asked to vote for them. In addition, MAS117 just send me a PM this morning.

I would have probably voted in the February elections anyway, even without those contacts. While Iīm posting only seldom in the Fantasy board (because I donīt have the time to be more active), Iīm often "lurking" here and I voted in every election since the last presidential one.

Those who oppose this, I have a question to the posters who have responded here and said they will vote even though they dont participate.  Do you know what the issues are in this election?

The constitutional convention?

Why does it matter anyway? How many people in real life know what the issues are in a election? And this isnīt even a real election, itīs just a game. It isnīt so that it will have a real meaning.

Besides, I decide for myself what issues are important for me. When Bono wanted to know if I would for him a couple of months ago, I asked him what his stances are on the issues I care about. I asked the same questions to his opponent Umengus (?) then. And a few weeks ago I asked Akno21 about his political positions (not that it matters anymore).

Granted, the party affiliation and the "idiology" of a candidate could play a role in my voting decision... but thatīs something I do in real elections too from time to time. So what?

No, ideology and party affiliation are very important, and should be considered.  And the problem I have is basically that people who are not playing the game are able to influence the game.  This is not like real life where the decisions affect everyone.  It only effects those who play the game.  And when you have people voting who pay little to no attention to what is going on, dont really involve themselves, but are still able to influence it, I find that unfair to those of us who are trying to play fairly.

When I vote in a Fantasy election I participate in the game. I participate  probably not as much as others, but I do.

And where do you draw the line? How often has someone to post in the Fantasy Elections board to be a "active voter"? At least once every three days? Once a week? And who does the tally sheet for all members then?

Or does the number of total posts in the Fantasy board only count instead? But what if someone who had reached this required treshold long ago, limits his acitivities to casting the ballot in the elections, because he hasnīt enough time anymore to be fully involved?

Personally, I think the current regulations are fine. Maybe the number of posts required to become a registered voter could be risen to 50 or something, but that is a point I do not really care about (because I have more than 300 Cheesy).

Again, itīs just a game. Thereīs no reason to get too serious about. And I say this as a former player in a RPG that was once literally destroyed because itīs members began to take it too serious (the mentioned RPG didnīt have something to do with politics though).

Ah, another ex-roleplayer. Smiley
What were you playing?

Well, Iīm still a roleplayer, although I probably reduced my activities. The one I mentioned had to do with Star Trek, played in chatroom not on a board, although the personal vendettas between the members were mostly fought out on the RPGīs message board. The RPG was finally destroyed by an attempted (but failed) "impeachment" against one of the GMīs, because some members thought they were repeatedly and delbaretly treated unfair by him, causing the RPG to split.
