I guess the 1950s were great as long as you were a white male heterosexual Christian. For everybody else, it sucked. Same applies for pretty much every decade before the 50s, of course.

the idea that the 60s were a time period of anarchy and nonstop drugs and sex isn't completely true. My parents spent their grade school and high school years in the 60s and they said that the 60s that people think of didn't really start until around 1966/1967.

I would almost say that "The Sixties" began on 11/22/63 and ended on 8/9/74.  That's why I'd consider Animal House to be 1950's film.  8/9/74 to 11/4/80 might be the "The Hangover." 

Are you saying that almost half of the Sixties didn't actually take place during the Sixties??

The 1960s lasted from 1960 to 1969. However, the 7th decade of the 20th century lasted from 1961 to 1970.
