It's obviously idiotic to think Obama is a Muslim....but I seriously don't understand why so many people think it would be a problem even if it were true.

It's idiotic to think he's Christian either, he is very obviously a closet atheist.

Is it?  When it comes to personal religious beliefs, I don't really get what the grounds are for contesting.

Given the environment in which he was raised, he is more likely to be irreligious than past Presidents. But such speculation really can't be proved or disproved.

Concealing your religion is not permitted in orthodox Islamic doctrine.

Islam has a history of putting mosques on conquered ground.

...this coming from a Christian.

Not only have Christians not shat on a country as the Muslims did, ever

I am forced to bow down to your superior logic. You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

The US didn't create the Taliban in the 80's.  They didn't exist and were founded in the mid 90's with some funding from the Pakistani ISI.

Mujaheddin?

Yep, they were disposable proxies so we thought. However, there was a lot of time and a few civil wars between when we funded them and when the Taliban arose.  A US relationship is further tenuous also because we funded Mujaheddin who would become Northern Alliance.   The early Taliban was a pretty grassroots organization- no doubt helped along with ISI money and support.

Yeah, the ISI is certainly the cause of many problems in the region, but we did help destablize the region since the 1980's. A lot of Pakistanis still blame us for that. If only they could also blame their own government which was just as complicit.....

Well, they can't do anything about that.

Think of the Mosque on the temple mount, in Constantinople, etc.

A mosque in a major city?

Yes, that's what he meant Roll Eyes

That's the only thing this one has in common with the others.

The fact that the misrepresentation of the building as being a mosque has continued even on this forum which I consider to be smarter, on average, than the usual voter, is a little depressing. It's not a mosque, people.

It is in fact a mosque. Mosques in the United States are never actually called mosques, for reasons that elude me entirely.
