Generally I think endorsements don't matter but this one does.  The Des Moines Register is the only statewide paper in Iowa and has always taken its role in the Presidential nominating process very seriously.  The campaigns would not have been trying so hard to get The Register endorsement if it was not important.  Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post writes:

However, history shows us that the endorsement winner is very frequently not the Iowa Caucus winner.  On the whole, I doubt this will convert Clinton skeptics but I believe that it will bolster wavering Hillary supporters and firm up her base.  Clinton may still lose the Iowa Caucus but if so she will not lose it by a substantial margin.
