Biden should have kept his mouth shut and not publicly announce that he was only gonna pick a black female to be his VP. If he hadn’t done it, there obviously still would be right wing pundits saying Kamala is a DEI hire, but it’s obviously a lot easier to convince people that she is a DEI hire when Biden literally stated that being a black female was the most important criteria for becoming his VP. Biden undersold the legitimacy of his VP in a desperate attempt to pander to black Democrats in the primaries
He didn't say that though and got a lot of flack for it in by the black community. He only committed to a woman and he did explicitly say he'd nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court.
