the ship lost power twice, right before hitting the bridge.  Just watched a video on FB.  Not sure if the link will work here.

yeah, it would be hard stupid expensive to design something that could absorb or resist that kind of energy

whomever set up the system that lets the ship pilot have near instant access to the authorities who can shut down the bridge deserves their large govt salary.  The dispatcher who relayed the message (if that's how it played out) should probably get a raise too.
