Jesus Christ, don't you clowns get tired of freaking out over every little thing?  I get that you're young so you've only seen a few tens of thousands of stories about how you're going to die tomorrow, but can't you dummies see the obvious pattern?

Do you ever get tired of finger wagging and lecturing people over everything?
hyperbole is the problem and it's what you're doing here.

Right now it doesn't appear there is any massive panic or hysteria, just concern
"the pandemic is here" is in the thread title

and it is always wise to pay attention to what is going on.
no it's not, not when it adds stress to your life for no obvious gain

I would rather there be widespread panic and the disease not being as dangerous/infectious as we thought than the public taking no precautions and the disease spreading to tens of millions of people within a matter of weeks. Time is very important and could mean the difference for millions of lives, if not the entire human population.
you think widespread panic is what stops the spread of dangerous things like this?

The World Health Organization said that the people dying already had preexisting conditions and most of the transmission of the disease were between family groups. And at the moment, there has been no recorded transmission of the disease from person to person outside of China.
sure sure, but if there isn't widespread panic, how else are we going to stop this?  It's the only way don'tchaknow?

Okay, tin foil hat conspiracy time. A friend of mine who, while not necessarily a "China expert," probably knows more about China that 99% of non-Chinese people and has spent extensive time there, floated this possibility: The virus originated from the bioweapon lab in Wuhan BUT was not an agent intended to kill significant amounts of people. Rather, it was specifically designed to have a high transmission rate and low mortality rate in order to track and model its spread overtime, so that China can improve its development of the actually lethal stuff for later use.

As I said, conspiracy theory, but I'M JUST ASKING QUESTIONS.

China is going to lose hundreds of billions of dollars and multiple percentages of growth off their economy because of this. I really doubt your friends conspiracy.
he may have left out part of the conspiracy, that it was an accident

one person is TRYING to make an extreme profit.  I just checked Amazon for Australia, they don't have any masks available at any price (which I assume means there aren't any available at local stores either).  And the ones that will be available next week/month are stupid expensive (though not $3500 for 50).

The regulatory barriers are frustrating here.

I keep hearing about the panicking.  I've still not seen anyone wearing a mask, the stores are still full of paper towels and batteries.  I know people have stupidly bought up all the face masks so they must be somewhere, but I ain't seen 'em.  There certainly are people online being idiots with the fearmongering, but I have not seen any of it in person.

Is Omaha, as usual, just better than every place else?  Or are people not really panicking?
