I'd be satisfied if the absolute constitutional right to bear arms were abolished. That's not the same thing as banning them (even though I'm somewhat sympathetic to that as well, but there are legitimate arguments for owning a weapon...say....in Alaska.)

I'm not sure what's funny about opposing a state monopoly on firearms.

What do you think about my cannon idea? I mean, giving the government a monopoly would be a scary prospect.

I'm not in favor of banning all guns everywhere, but basing your argument against any regulations on not wanting a government monopoly is stupid.

Even when I wasn't a socialist I supported gun rights, largely because I don't think that state monopolies on firepower are pre recs for good behavior on the part of the state. (And if the experience in the USSR, PRC, et al. are any indication, I'd say those are safe bets)
