The big issue for the GOP is that there are lots of GOP voters here that Dems can pick up. In 2014, Scott Walker netted 146,300 votes out of the WOW counties. In 2022, Michels netted 77,400. The Republicans lost nearly a 70,000 vote advantage there (and there are signs they may continue to fall).

They have been able to gain some ground in rural Wisconsin, but places like Taylor, Oconto, Marinette, Rusk, etc are all voting GOP by 40ish points already…there just is not a lot more you can max out of those rurals. Additionally, a lot of those rural areas are very old…the median age of places like Florence, Iron, Rusk, are the late 50s/early 60s. 10 years from now a fair amount of those voters will be gone.
