The short version is that the US is no longer building any fighters.

The F-22 is stopped, the F35 (in all it's various forms) is delayed.

The Navy at least still have F18 super Hornets still coming off the line.  The F18 is not a "true" air superiority fighter of course, but it will at least hold it's own for a while.
