Such a shame that some students were bound and determined to turn a solemn and meaningful ceremony into a political rally for a cause they're very poorly informed about.  The university was not willing to endure such a sad, obnoxious spectacle and instead made the reasonable decision to cancel.  Now all their fellow students who just wanted to enjoy graduation -- especially after missing 2020 high school graduation because of COVID -- are robbed of it because of the selfishness of a few assholes who see the entire world as just a collection of platforms for them to jump up on and chant "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be Arab free"

Are you allergic to acknowledging that there are a sizeable amount of non-problematic protestors that aren't racist and just don't like seeing grandmas and babies getting blown up by bombs or starving to death? It seems like you actively go out of your way to make sure that you don't acknowledge that they exist in your posts.

There is no overlap between the reasonable protesters and the protesters trying to ruin a graduation ceremony for thousands of innocent people.

I’m glad you’re concerned about thousands of innocent people. I can think of a few more such thousands who are suffering a lot worse than a canceled graduation ceremony.

That is a very silly argument. Getting commencement at USC cancelled will not save a single innocent Gazan. The two things are unconnected.

Speaking for my myself, not only would I be proud of my son/daughter for not only being able to get into Columbia, but I'd be even more proud that he/she was standing up for their oppressed brothers and sisters in Ghazzah as any Muslim should.

That would be the sign that I've raised them right by not only having academic excellence, but also a strong deen. Inshallah, his/her efforts, while not being rewarded in this world, and in this society, shall be rewarded where it truly matters. In the akhirah.

I appreciate that, given that none of the people who recommended this post are Muslim, almost all of them probably recommended it despite not knowing what the words "deen" (literally just judgement, no reason this couldn't have been said in English) and "akirah" (heaven) meant. AFE could have put will to futuh (conquest) and houri (virgin reward for warriors) instead and they wouldn't have blinked an eye.

They probably did what I did and googled the terms lol. We’re on the internet. Finding out the meaning of both unknown words took me less than 30 seconds.

Step 1: Occupy building with no food in it after being told not to by the building's owners
Step 2: Ask the people whose building you are occupying to please give you food for some reason

I haven't commented much because I don't feel like these protests are anything worth making a big fuss about, but this is just stupid. Maybe next time they try this they can consider a building which would be easier to supply so that they don't have to pathetically beg the people they are protesting for food.

For what its worth I also don't see why anyone would think that calling in the Guard to all the encampments is a good move here. For a bunch of teenagers in tents on the quad?
