8 pages on this in two hours and real issues like inflation are lucky to get two

Sad!

This is potentially one of the biggest Supreme Court decisions in decades, and you're b*tching about thread length?

look I know mr x can be disingenuous but its obvious what he's talking about. As I said above, people in this thread are fear mongering about the SCOTUS using the same logic to overturn Griswold/Obergefell/Lawrence. That's absolutely concern trolling

Obergefell and Lawrence sure, but how is Griswold not under threat from this decision? I'm hardly a legal scholar, but from my skimming of the draft opinion and prior knowledge of both cases, it seems like Griswold and Roe were decided on similar bases. Wouldn't a decision overturning Roe necessarily indicate that Griswold is suspect?

Congress should have resolved this issue years ago.

I am surprised that in the 50 years period between Roe and this case, no national law on abortion was passed. There have been multiple trifectas in that time, and you'd think that somebody would have made a move at some point.

Oh my god, stop with the stupid semantic arguments about human beings. A fetus is a human life in an extremely early stage of development. Only a fool would deny that. The issue is whether or not we want the government legislating away women's bodily autonomy over an unviable fetus.

We're well on the way to conservative legislation that requires police-state oversight of all female behavior during pregnancy, all in the name of making sure the fetus is preserved. If you care about individual rights and liberties (which we all know conservatives don't) then this is terrible news.

I hardly think these arguments are productive, but what else are people suppose to discuss? The differing standards for what constitutes a "human life" is where the entirety of the abortion issue comes from. It is the root of the problem. Discussing abortion without discussing what counts as a human being is like discussing gun control without defining what a firearm is.

By the time it's been 4 hours since its creation (9:43 PM PT, or a little under 30 minutes from now) I imagine it'll be at 20.

I personally think by the time I wake up tomorrow and log on to the forum (probably like 8:30 AM tomorrow PT), it could have exploded to 40 (though on the other hand, most of the posters here are American and I'm sure that most of them will take a break to go to sleep at some point).

I'll probably be posting here rather than finishing my History final, as I've done for much of the evening. Who needs sleep when there's sh**tposting to be done?

I'm going to find the server room for this website and smash them all with a hammer.

Very telling that a thread about an imminent threat to women's rights is immediately highjacked by people complaining about some loser in Minneapolis

I get the complaint, but “immediately”? My brother in Christ this is page 35 of the thread.

The people who leaked this need to be arrested and throw in prison for years
What law did they break?

Supreme Court opinions are not classified. At worst, it's a breach of protocol.

Also, I'm getting rather sick of arguments about the personal comfort of people in prominent positions of public trust. I'm far more interested in the impact their actions have on millions of people than whether Justice Kavanaugh gets a good night's sleep.

They leaked their PERSONAL ADRESSES

Addresses are not private. They are trivial to find. It is impossible to “leak” an address because that information isn’t secret. This isn’t some new thing either. Phone books, city directories, etc. all would include such information. There has never been a time where addresses were assumes to be private.

Like clockwork!

A politician fundraising based on the political issue of the day? How scandalous.

note the date range. That doesn't include any day after the decision was handed down.

Fair but a lot of the surprise of Roe being overturned went away when the Leak happened and it still didnt poll that high.

Last numbers I saw were hardly half that. It may not be the top issue, but it has certainly increased as an issue since the decision. Even if it isn’t the issue of the campaign, it is going to be playing a major role.

Ah, looks like my state of South Carolina just introduced a bill banning all abortions except for the life of the mother. If you're raped you still have to have the child.

The bill also makes it a felony to assist a woman or help a woman travel to another state for an abortion. I'm not sure how that is constitutional or how the state plans to stop a woman from getting into a car and driving to North Carolina or wherever else abortion is accessible.

I’m surprised you still have a republican  avatar tbh.

I haven't voted for a Republican, outside of my county's probate court judge, who does a great job and is not political at all, in many election cycles. I once said I kept my blue avatar out of tradition, but given how the Republican Party has gone off the rails in the last decade plus (and my off and on disappearances from Atlas forum), perhaps it is time to retire the blue avatar.

Badger did and against the same grain you are rowing against. Think of yourself as an ancestral Arkansas Democrat but in reverse.

Badger was never really a Republican though given he volunteered for Mondale

Pretty sure there are a lot of Republicans who volunteered for Mondale. Heck, Fuzzy Bear might have volunteered for Mondale.

Don’t abortion bans in every state still include exceptions for the life of the mother? Why wouldn’t that apply here? Childbirth could easily kill a 10 year old, that’s years before anyone should be going through pregnancy just in a biological sense. Insanity.

There is some truth to this. If the choices were between ending gay marriage and ending immigration, the vast, vast majority of red avs would take away my rights.

Holy crap why is this still pinned lol, where's our inflation megathread?

This only matters to the hyperpartisans on this forum

Yes, clearly only hyperpartisans care about one of the landmark Supreme Court decisions in American history.
