1.  Welcome to the forum Smiley

2.  Nym is absolutely correct, but you also have to think about where the votes were.  I think it's pretty sfae to say Anderson cost Carter ME, NY, and MA, and likely in VT, DE, and WI.  In all of those states, Anderson's vote total far exceeded the margin of victory for Reagan, and I think it's likely that enough of Anderson's voters would've turned to Carter for him to win those states.
