After Hillary drops out in June, Obama is nominated unanimously at the convention, selecting Governor Easley of North Carolina as his running mate.  John McCain selects Governor Jindal of Louisiana as his running mate, and the election begins.

However, through September and October, things go downhill.  Violence sours in Iraq, and we hit a major recession by the middle of October.  On election day, Obama is elected in a massvie landslide, while picking up 40 House seats and Senate seats in ME, NH, VA, NC, KY, TX, MN, OR, and AK.

After being sworn in, though, Obama is unable to solve all the problems.  Although he helps prevent further downturns in the economy, the recession is still fairly severe.  He decides not to remove troops from Iraq, saying they are needed to prevent further escalation in violence.  In the 2010 elections, the Democrats lose 47 House seats, and Senate seats in IN, CO, OR, and the seat of Majority Leader Reid.

Despite the problems, Obama is unchallenged for the nomination.  On the GOP side, 2008 VP nominee Jindal defeats Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee for the nomination.  He selects Mike Crapo as his Vice President.

Discuss with maps.

Easy Jindal win, plus senate seat wins in CA, MT, FL, NE, MO, MI, NJ, and VA, map:

No Democrat will lose Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Minnesota in the near future.
